Such as a coffin sleeper with a crawl thru access. But dang, I sure do miss them.

I have 280” wb. Classic. 84” bunk. I’ve yet to get in or out of a spot. Doing long haul, mostly going straight down the road. I like it. Good ride. Took getting used to after having a 265”. Wife travels with me now, sure would like a 120” ARI. Never enough room.

    so you are mostly correct.....

One is legal on STAA road network pulling a 53’ trailer with no overall length limit - however as soon as you depart the STAA network- each state has an OAL length limit.

the 90’ length the AR trooper would be concerned with is where they would require a permit for length. This would be a very difficult length to hit with a trailer limited to 53’. I am a 298” wb and was pulling a 53’ step this week and my OAL length was only 77’

@Old Man is correct on the various KP restrictions. Most states you can permit this - some states you must comply by sliding the axles to the correct length. The exception for trailers that cannot slide to legal is an oversize permit (even empty). There are conditions state by state to obtain a permit.

anecdotally, back in the 90’s there was an old married couple at Landstar that ran A&E pulling a 53’ van with the max length tractor - it was a goofy setup that got features in the trucking mags at the time.

    Tennessee has a kingpin limit
I think it’s kingpin to back of trailer.

If you have a 53 rgn with a Tri axle you’re over length by about 8 inches and need a permit, oversize load banners and a beacon on the back of the trailer .
Some rgns have a movable kingpin and some don’t

    GYPSY65 and NavigatorWife Thank this.

Back before rules changed , most eastern state the law was 55’ short cabover and a 45’ trailer. Tennesse was 57’ and they enforced it.
