is it really necessary? I've hauled idk a dozen or 2 coils. I've never had beveled dunage. Just regular ol 4x4's. Nobody has ever said anything. I've just never been able to find it and don't want to carry regular dunnage and beveled too. Thoughts and experiences?

Yes it works better than regular dunnage. U can buy the coil racks that u put regular dunnage in and it tilts them to a 45 degree angle. Thats what i used. Some places wont load u with regular boards because it can damage the coil

If square 4x4’s is all you have, it’s a good idea to lay some felt pads on the cornered edge of the boards.

I ask cause I've got about 3 years in the angled racks using the exact same unbeveled timbers. Probably close to at minimum using the wood 2 x a week and it was always just on top of one of my side-boxes exposed to the weather too...
Im using true oak 3.5x3.5"
Had to grab some beveled and racks for my brother the other day at tarp stop (only had 3 angled racks and they seem poorly built compared to my 6 year old ones) and there was a ton of soft poplar, a completely split peice of ash, I had to really dig to come up with hardwoodD.Tibbitt Thanks this.
