Heres the deal. I'm wanting to get into driving and learning the ropes of being a Company Driver but don't want to waste my time attending a no good training Academy. The options for me are SWIFT,FFE,CR ENGLAND. The reason is, I can't get a bank loan for local schooling. Which company has the best CDL Academy?
Whats the average a newbie can start out at? Would like to gross between 600.00 +...Am I making a mistake by getting into truck driving? I have to make at least 2000.00 a month. I have a child 4yrs old and a wife to support. My job right now is in lay off mode. I love traveling and seeing the world. So when you post answers please state why you recommend the one plz. Thx for Helping me into Truck Driving.

Truck driving can work out good for you. You just have to make the right choice and also go with a good company. I attended Swift Driving Academy and got my CDL thru their school. Their school may not be the best but they at least did teach me everything I needed to know on how to get my CDL. They work very hard with you on Pre Trips and make you do alot of backing also. At their acadmey they have diffrent time schedules and sometimes would do it overnight. Their instructors do their part of their job and you will have to do so to. As for the pay, your first year will be hard for you but most of the times you will make more than 600 in a week and more than 2000 in a month because I have. Also for FFE they are a great company for what I heard about them. Their academy is great and you should read thru their forum about their academy and other experience to. As for CR Enland I dont know, but I hear negative things about them alot. They force drivers to lease a truck and sometimes if you dont you will be waiting to get a truck. But for miles and other things about them a CRE driver would tell you for sure. The only problem I think you will have is hometime and having a child 4 years old will be rough if you are a truck driver. Choose a company that will workout great for you, I also would recommend you to look at other companies also like Prime Inc, Stevens Transport and, Roehl.

Yes they do. They have it setup so it looks good on paper but in reality its a joke. Also, the only way to make a paycheck while leasing is to train. So your first week on your own YOU WILL be training a newbie when your still a newbie yourself. once u sign that lease they will throw u to the wolves too. They really can care less about u as long as that truck payment is made cuz they have a couple hundred new sheep in class every week.

Just know that whichever company that you sign on to because of the ability to get training through them, you will be locked into a contract to drive for them for around year, more or less. If things aren't working out between you and the company for whatever reason, you're stuck there until your contract is up. If you do leave before it's up, you're on the hook for the balance of the cost of training, and you have a bad employment reference. Can you get a private loan to attend driving school from someone you trust? If so, do it that way in order to keep your options open. You could finance a loan through a school as a last, very last resort. I work for Knight Refrigerated and now that I'm on my third dispatcher in less than a year, I have found that the right Driver Manager/Dispatcher makes a HUGE difference in your take-home pay and your sanity! I wish you and your family the very best! :)
