Picked up a trailer and had to pull forward 10 feet to get to where I could raise the gear (dirt lot). Pulled up real slow and one of the pads got stuck sort of vertical. Got the gear raised but can’t knock it back down even with a sledge. Is it best to just take the pad off then put it back on?

Write it up as you found it that way on your pre-trip inspection, then let the next driver deal with it.
    Joking!!!!!!!!!
If you take it off, the metal might be sprung and then you can't put it back on.
Keep banging it for awhile and maybe it will come loose.

With these trailers being dropped and hooked so often those pads get a lot of abuse, it could be a bent pin so that you take it off it will be real hard to get it back on, A bigger sledge may be needed with a bit of lubricant and rust breaker. Make sure you write it up and leave notice for next driver to find that mess.

Crank it back down then back the truck up to push it back down.

That will probably work. Do it on a concrete parking lot or on asphalt if no one is looking.

I got it unstuck. Popped the pin out no problem. Thanks for ideas.

This is exactly why you should NEVER, NEVER lower the feet all the way to the ground ALWAYS, ALWAYS leave them 1.5 to 2 inches off the ground, use your suspension dump valve, even without it the tractor will have more than enough power to puch back under the trailer..

Tank wash yard jockeys like to cram them so close together you can’t even get the gear arm all the way out

    Farmerbob1 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Another reason not to crank them down tight, so you can pull it forward without damaging the feet

Depends on the tractor. Some Pete's sit tail high and you'll catch the rear frame plate on the king pin and rip it off, even with the bags dumped, unless the landing gear is all the way to the ground.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
