Where I work they started putting cameras in trucks recently. Well now the managers are po’d because they’ve found tape and vaseline on some of the cameras. Now they are putting them in all trucks and are talking smack that anyone caught tampering with them will be fired. Funny since many are getting away with lots of other things due to the driver shortage so I’m pretty sure it’s a bluff.

So is there a better way to disable these things. Maybe a permanent marker like a sharpie on the lens ? Or would that come off with alcohol.

I have no intention of disabling these things myself, but I have a pretty good idea on who’s doing it, so I’m just gonna make some suggestions in group talk something like whoever is doing this would be much more effective using a Sharpie as Vaseline and tape is easily removed.

    Any thoughts ?

Anyone else seen anything like this happen with cameras.

Fine-grit sandpaper on the lens works wonders.

I think they are hardwired. Only way is frying the electronics in the camera. But it’s most likely dual front and driver facing so. You basically need to cover it.

I already have multiple job offers. One I verbally said I’d start after the first of the new year.

Just don’t mind seeing others destroying their precious cameras which only exist
to get the driver into trouble. I’m not gonna mess with them. But happy other are.

most have a power wire & fuse going to a power source.

    That being said...
They can see if it has become disconnected. If you have signed anything regarding the cameras, then you will be on the hook for tampering with company equipment plus disabling the camera.

If you truly want them to quit watching you or give you an approved cover for the inward facing camera, try things that won't get you fired.

Buy your own truck and drive like you want before you decide to vandalize someone's else's equipment
