Does anyone know which is the best school in Denver, CO? (I'd rather hear from actual graduates or current attenders of schools than recruiters if possible.)

    Specific questions:

    Which is the most economical?
Which will provide the most opportunities for employment?
    Which has the best instructors?

    Thank you!

I looked around, there are a few......I'm from here, but I went a different route.

Sage: Big, nationwide, lots of prehire/job placement ops.

USA Truck: Big, nationwide, lots of prehire/job placement.

CDL College: Smaller, work with werner and a few others, offer job placement as well.

Price wise, those 3 are all about the same, around 4k. CDL College is my preference of the 3, as their classes are literally 1 on 1, or maybe 2. You can work at your own pace, and schedule classes around your current life. Sage and USA truck are set schedule, and more trainee's to trainer.

There are a couple others around too, they are also smaller companies, but offer the "same" course of instruction. It all depends on where you want to go, how fast you want to go. I know Stevens hires through a school here too, if you want to go mega carrier route. Swift also hires in Denver, but their school is in Phoenix I think........Google is your friend on that. If you are looking to go the school to smaller carrier route, then stay away from the mega carriers, they'll bind you into a contracted service term.

I hope I helped a little at least.

Thanks a lot for the reply, ratherbtruckin. What different route did you go? Do you know of any companies in Denver that offer reimbursement for CDL training through employment? I've been googling and haven't been able to find any. Thanks again!

My wife and I attended United States Truck Driving School a couple of months ago. They are located in Wheatridge but we actually attended school in Longmont. We also looked at Sage but we chose USTDS. We were very impressed with the instructors. All brought different skills to the process and we really respected them. The yard in Wheatridge is large with lots of room to practice and they offer lifetime job placement. You will hear lots of people talk about 1 on 1 and USTDS is three in a truck but honestly, the school took three weeks and we were MORE than ready to take the CDL test and I learned a lot watching the other students. I highly recommend this school.

Forgot this part, I know that Werner and Swift have Denver terminals. Also, I have a friend that just went to work for JBS out of Greeley. I think they have a reimbursement program also but not sure.

Unfortunately, the best one closed, MTA was the the best and most honest school in town.

USTDS is the most dishonest, lying corrupt a=holes on the planet, I wouldn't trust their recruiters or teachers to walk my dog.

National and Sage are supposed to be pretty good schools. Check with local community colleges as well, a couple of them offer a program.

LOL, All I know is I attended USTDS and everyone in my class was very satisfied with the training. Two in my class had been drivers in the past, one let his CDL expire while in the Army and one went to a community college program paid for by the State that was not certified so nobody would hire him.

The only negative I have about them is the placement coordinator pushes Swift HARD. It was just a turn off. We went to USTDS after talking to Sage because a company that we were talking to about driving told us they prefer USTDS trained drivers over Sage. They did everything that was promised and we had one student that was horrible, they spent tons of extra time with her to help her pass. Went way above and beyond in my opinion.

cdl college. under 3k, i paid cash, and i definitely got a lot of a good 1 on 1 training. when i went to work i definitely had a step up on everyone, they teach a lot of stuff other schools wont even touch on.

and yes you can show up whenever you want and go to town, then leave whenever. it was awesome. i chose to go every day and knocked out the whole course in about 3 weeks.

In Jan. '97, I spoke with a recruiter from USTDS, this was 5 yrs after my felony conviction. His office was slightly larger than a broom closet in the basement of the building. When I told him that I had a felony conviction, he told me to buy a shovel as no one in the trucking industry would hire me with a felony conviction.

2 weeks later, I spoke with a recruiter from MTA at a jobs fair. Explained my situation to him, made an appt. for the next day. Before I even started the paperwork, he had already talked to three local companies who were looking for drivers and would hire me with a felony. I graduated tied for 1st in my class.

3 yrs later, I ran into that same USTDS recruiter at a jobs fair I was at with my wife. I decided to talk to him, when I told him that I had a felony, he launched into the same line. I pulled out my wallet, showed him my CDL along with a pic. of my then new tractor. He was speachless and tried to walk away, I suggested maybe he should get over his hangups about people with problems in their past and help people find a job.

I've heard this from others as well that USTDS has a problem with people who don't have spotless backgrounds. They try to push SWIFT, May, Werner, CR England, Schneider. They have also been investigated by the State and 9News for fruad on a couple of occasions.
