Best Team Dedicated run companies

    Hello

    We are a husband and wife team with over 5 years experience and were running a dedicated run at our employer for most of that time. Our company recently got bought out and the new idiots got rid of all dedicated runs. We are trying to find a good team dedicated run company. Does any one have any good suggestions?

    We applied to Old Dominion multiple times through the years but have never heard back from them, so clearly they dont want us. We live in Dallas area, but dont care to ever go home, we reside in the truck. We dont really like the LTL carriers business model because we like to work really hard and run for a couple months on a dedicated run and then take a week off. We had applied to Estes in the past, and got "hired" but didnt want to be forced to take two days off a week in Dallas as we dont actually have a place there and just stay with my sister when we need to, (but two days a week wouldnt work.) Estes told us we could keep working but could not bank our days off.

    So....long story short... team, 5 years exp., (one of us has one 66 in a 55 in CA speeding ticket, otherwise nothing else.) looking for a dedicated run at a decent OTR compnay.

    FFE (Frozen Food Express) hires teams and has a "Plasma Account" dedicated that pays really well.
    FFE even pays you when you're home on "off time."

    FFE Dallas terminal also its HQ is in Lancaster next to Swift. If you applied you would probably have a job offer within 24 hours.

    Their plasma division is pretty cool if you are willing to work. You drive all over the country except we don't go north of PA and nothing in NYC that I know of. Everything else is fair game.

    You would pick up at donation locations and drive them to one of their warehouses to drop off. The drivers load the trailer themselves and the trailer is kept at -30 degrees. Personally I hate the cold, but I got used to it in a few weeks and never really in there longer than 30 minutes at a time. Stop pay is 30.00 per driver, average 10-14 stops a week. You pick up usually 50-200 cases and they weigh about 30 lbs each on average. It takes half hour to an hour to toss them inside and the person inside stacks and wraps the pallet. Some runs have up to 18 pick ups. Drop off pay is $50, they unload your trailer, you just move stuff out of the way for them.

    You can park at most locations overnight. The DMs don't want you to, but they aren't truck drivers so I don't think they realize this country's parking situation. A lot of pick ups are in large cities, and at the end of the day say maybe 7PM truck stops will be full. lol. They are usually located in urban commercial areas. So sometimes there are some neat places close by you could check out if you wanted. Also gyms, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. During the week it's mostly business hours driving and after your last pick up, you usually drive to the first pick up the next day or somewhere close and stop for the night.

    Weekends your usually driving around the clock. You drive to the warehouse do the drop, maybe go to a nearby terminal, get a load of food and haul to another terminal that's near where your route is for the next week. Drop it off, then head to your first pick up. Since you are a team truck they will load/unload you quickly and you don't spend much time waiting usually.

    Most drivers work 3 weeks then take about 6 days off. They pay you 850.00 that week you don't drive. You can work through that week off by just asking to and they will pay you that 850 still, and also whatever you earn that week driving. The last week I worked through home time my check was 3,450 gross give or take, my biggest check so far. My smallest check ever was for about 500.00 net I think. Those small checks are rare though. If you do work you will see more large checks than small ones. Average pay for a first year rookie driver is 1500 week in that division. I don't know what you two would earn as experienced drivers. It's worth a call and talk to them about mileage pay. I started at 0.40 cpm for all miles driven my first year. It is miles paid from zip code to zip code.

    Lots of people think the job is hard, too much work, the driving is hard because of the city driving, etc. In my opinion it's worth the money. For me the hardest part is just the teaming, sharing a truck.

    They have other teams in linehaul, ltl, regional, etc. But can't give too many details since I don't work in those divisions. I do help out linehaul and ltl on the weekends, but that's it.

    The per diem is like 360 week if you do the daily checks.

    I have not. Usually when I get the north east run we do a load to the NJ terminal then head to Mechanicsburg. We do Pittsburg and Philadelphia. Driving wise it has to be the hardest run I've done so far. Philadelphia and Baltimore are the worst. I'm sure NYC is worse, but I don't think we ever go there. My partner drove through it, but didn't have to get off the interstate, fortunately. I did drive through Jersey City trying to get back on I78 (I think), and that was an armpit. :confused:

    If I'm not in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is very nice. Too cold for me, but some of the best scenery I've taken in so far next to Oregon and Washington.
