My wife has decided to get her CDL and I want her to go to the best training she can get. I've heard from my students that I've trained that Roadmaster in Tampa was decent. I went to Roadmaster in JAX in 2007 and think they suck ######## ( figure that one out). She has crappy credit, I have decent credit. I want to finance her tuition rather than milk our savings for it. Company schools are out of the question as im happy where im at, plus can train then team.

I went to Tampa in '03, at that time there were instructors there that really cared about the success of their students, but you know as well as I do Anj that the reality of Roadmaster is that you only get a weeks worth of on the road training and you had better brush up your skills quickly or you'll be left scratching your head with a CDL and not having a real clue of what you're doing. I'm all for the tech schools if you can find one near you, they seem to really focus on getting their students trained right.

Dude, all you have to do is Google "Roadmaster" and "Tampa" to read the horror stories. Send her to one of the local colleges. PTEC in St. Petersburg has an awesome program, light years above Roadmaster, and it's WAY cheaper. Several of their former students are members of this forum. Google it, search it on this forum.

I'll tell you this I worked at CDL technical In medley they have no job placement.cdl school miami is another one that is not too bad that's the one I went to at least a had job placement.before picking of school I would say go and check out the yard and see what kind of instruction these instructors are giving the majority of what I've seen has been a bunch of cell phone playing useless instructors job placement is also important especially for a new driver. Out of those two I would say CDL school Miami will be a little bit of a better choice. The lesser of two evils if you will

For Florida the 3 good schools I know companies mostly hire out of are Roadmaster , TDI, and National Training.

Mid florida tech in Orlando is regarded as a good school. Sage is also good. Theres a school in Lakeland that's also regarded as being good.

I went to TDI in Milton, FL and really enjoyed the program. They do have a campus in Sanford, FL.

It will be a great move on your behalf for your wife. My son-in-law went there and in addition to the more-than-300-hour course, he received 1000 miles real road time with only one or (at the most) two other students in the truck. He loved the instructors, said two are ex-flatbedders and one is a retired tanker driver. He came out of that school safety conscious and I was very surprised at how his driving skills had improved. He does one of the most thorough pre and post-trip inspections I've ever encountered and knows exactly what he's looking at and what he's looking for.
