I thought he was talking about going straight down 78... Lamar Ave. versus 55-302-78.

Looking at whatever date image Google Satellite is using today, all the ground and interchange work [for I-269] seems to be done for the last 5-7 miles of the western-most portion from where it currently ends at MS 305. So in my estimation, the completion all the way to 55 is not that far off relatively speaking

You can either run Goodman to 78 to Shelby or I personally take Holmes off 78 to Airways then run north to Shelby about a mile. Much less traffic on Holmes and it parallels Shelby. I run a lot of OB loads, I’m from there originally.

From 305 to 55 is paved, it’s just not striped out.

I play it by ear, and depending on where I am going there are a couple cut offs. If it is afternoon in Byhalia though I will run the new highway up through Collierville to 385 and in. Will slow down at the airport and the bridge but it is what it is at that point. Or you can run Germantown(305) north to 385.
There is a short cut I learned running cans down there but I would have to look at a map to remember it.

If you try 302 you can run Getwell or Swinnea up to Stateline to avoid that four light cluster at 55.
    Looked on map
Off 78 you can turn left on Holmes right on Pleasent Hill and it will bring you out at the BN rail entrance. Cuts some of the fuster cluck between the industrial park and the Shelby Ave light.

Secret short cut... Shhh!!! Take 78 across TN border. There are 2 ways depending on time of day and traffic. You can usually see how had traffic is prior to teaching Holmes Rd. If really backed up take left on Holmes Rd. Go to Getwell and make a right. Go to Shelby and make a left. Right onto 55. If not backed up at Shelby you'll normally wait 2 plus traffic lights to make a turn onto Shelby from 78. However, you can hit a left before the light in between both Pilots. Take that around bend to the stop sign and make a right. Left at stop light will be back onto Shelby Dr.

    I run it straight through.

I-55 bridge is not palatable to me. Because if there is a quake, that bridge will be allowed to fall into the river. It has no defense against quakes, cheaper to replace it (50's era) than it is to make it strong like the I-40 bridge which is most certainly hardened after 12 years of work against a super quake.

It does not matter what you do in memphis, traffic time and predators. Take the 40 bridge and be happy.

If a quake does break from Madrid pray that the 40 bridge is strong and stays standing. The entire East Coast depends on that one.

Yes, New Madrid last broke approx 1812. Rang church bells in Boston Mass. Ran the mile wide mississippi backwards a time. They can only estimate the ritcher scale.

Arkansas did a study of the next one at 8.0 There was a computer simulation run at it from Paducah Ky. 7 waves traveled down US 67 to Little Rock. White County is 88,000 They saw approx 20,000 dead 40,000 wounded and most towns with brick bridges totally destructed. 5 of those waves created movement of the ground that you would stand on approx 15 to 30 feet in a given direction horizonal and at least a 5 foot up or down in some areas. Breaking rail tracks and wrecking highways and bridges for certain US 67 is concrete plated with similar bridges, totally destroyed.

Memphis was a burning ruin. St Louis likewise. The out of route trucking that is necessary goes either Omaha east or South of Vicksburg east if we lost the I-40 bridge and the St Louis Bridges such as the Eads. Rail and 5 pipe line connections would be lost to the east coast. Casulties in Little Rock approx 200,000 to 300,000 daily would be enormous.

Using Cold war 1980's data there was approx 16 to 24,000 monitored burn beds east of the Mississippi River. Arkansas possesses about 45 helicopters for medical flights, two centers for trauma and 440 community hospitals of about a few hundred beds max. 100 more common. ER's can only take 10 to 20 at a time. There is only about 6000 sworn Law Enforcement backed by roughly 8000 infantry of the 39th here in Arkansas, 6200 or so of which can be federally deployed against a population of 1 to 2 million that will probably begin to loot what they require within several days. (As is already happening in Florida, people are being brought into walmart from a secure parking lot 10 at a time under Military armed gaurds against looting as I write this. And that's just one store that does not possess power or frozen foods. (Much)

It would be a National Castrophe that is essentially unknown in our hsitory. Fedex, UPS etc in Memphis will cease to exist. Memphis is number three city in trucking coming in freight and outgoing freight. that will disappear along with McKesson (Medicines) St louis can expect to lose pretty much everything. That is the location of our entire Transportation Command in the Military in addition to all Vital Records. (Records are duplicated else where but not in the necessary detail to be efficient) among other things.

Should I go on? California can fall into the ocean with the big one, thats really bad. But the king of all quakes that is still possible in the USA is under New York City in the granite bedrock deep below. If that snaps I can expect just about all of my family not present in Indiana, ga and fla as well as west to be killed along with tens of millions.

Gloom and doom. I don't even think about it. That's why I don't use the I55 bridge.
