hi guys. Best route from Albuquerque to San Antonio? First option is through i25 to i10 through El Paso which is 100 miles longer. Other option is us285 through Roswell and Carlsbad which is shorther in distance. I heard local enforcement is strict in Texas us roads. My load is very light by the way. Anyone having done this trip before? Any suggestions?

285 isn't bad, pretty scenery. Texas isn't any more strict on US roads then any other state. I wouldn't worry about that.

IF you go 285, which I would because it is beautiful, be well prepared. There are many very long stretches without phone service and plan you fuel/stops before you start. Not many places to stop for fuel or food. Many little towns and cool things, especially if you like seeing old abandoned cars, trucks and buildings.

Have run that route many times, watch for free range cattle and aliens, the little green kind, and you will be fine! Most of 285 is highway speed so you will make good time.

You have a decent tractor/ trailer, light load? You should be fine, just "keep your foot outta it",watch those town speedlimits.Make sure you have plenty of fuel, dont overheat, have water to drink.Id take that "100 mile shorter route" personally.

I would too. There's almost always a big backup in ElPaso.

100 miles. pffth, two little hours on the interstate versus those small towns and speed limits you might not see in time.

Yea sure it's 100 miles shorter on the small town roads. (Speeding up and slowing down etc) versus one speed all the way down on the interstate. I'll take the big road and be done with it. 2 hours. Ha.

I used to have a dedicated run to Clovis NM and Lubbock. Occasionally went down the San Antonio. I like taking the 84 out of Santa Rosa NM for the sights. Who could pass up the Billy the Kid museum and the world's largest ball of twine?

Yeah, I once broke down in a little backwater town just over the border called Bovina. Snapped the serpentine and tractor overheated. But the drive was nice. Went through Fort Sumter and snapped a pic of the sign with the directions to Billy the Kid's grave. Lincoln County, NM was nice also.

Dude, take the scenic route. Very nice drive. And El Paso is a pain in the ### to get through during certain hours.

Anyone taken trip from San Antonio to Albuquerque. Could reverse what's already been said. Seems the El Paso route is longer but better driving wise. True?
