I'm going to be driving my new mini cooper(I promise to stay out of your way) from Chicago to Dallas next week and I'm looking for the best route. I don't want to sight see. I would like to bypass construction areas and hit the higher speed limit areas. I hear OK has 75. I've also heard that ARK has bad roads. I figured I'd ask the experts!
Thanks!
Best Route Chicago to Dallas?

I-57 to I-55 to I-40 to I-30 looks like the best bet to me. You don't want construction? Good luck on that. You could take I-55 to I-44 and look for a short route through Oklahoma and Texas like hwy 69-75,but that can get pretty congested, or go to I-35 and down and that's definitely congested in the daytime. For high speeds you'll need to take the route through Wyoming.

I make this drive weekly, finding no construction is going to be impossible. However, the fastest and shortest all interstate route (65-75 mph) is I-55 South to I-44, I-44 West to I-35. I-35 south to Dallas.
I-44 is an Oklahoma Toll Road and if I remember right the total toll for the entire route for cars is like $6.00-$8.00.Last edited: Jul 27, 2008
