Which of the following radios do you think has the best receive?
I'm looking at a Uniden 980 SSB, a President Lincoln II, or I have an option to buy a used Galaxy DX 95 T2 from a co-worker. I'm not chasing big watts, I'm more into having a good receiving radio. I borrowed a Uniden 880 from a another co-worker and loved everything about it but it went deaf for anyone out past 3/4 of a mile. My old Uniden PC78LTW is far more sensitive.
Lastly, my co-worker is asking $250.00 for the Galaxy (stock, no issues, he's retiring shortly) what do you think of this price? I'll try it in my truck and see how it does.

If you plan on using the radio on SSB. I would not get the Galaxy. They are known for poor SSB. With lots of drifting. The others should be much better.

I have the Bearcat 980, and with a Wilson 2000 receives maybe 2 miles.....I got it on sale and w/my points at Loves only spent like $50 NIB for it, but it now resides in my pickup. I am currently running an old school President Grant, and depending on the signal being sent, I can receive like 6+ miles. Just my $.02.

From the 3 radios listed, the 980 has the best receiver.

So there are more differences between the Uniden 880 & 980 aside from the SSB option?

The 880 is on sale @ Pilot through 6/30/14 for $90 & have enough points to get it. But the 980 is
at full overly inflated typical truck stop pricing.

Have never had one in the truck after all these years, but need to get something.

I like the looks and features of the Lincoln II. It is illegal for the CB band, but it should out talk the other two radios and probably receives better as well.
For what you want it for, you should pay more attention to a really good antenna set up, then whatever radio you choose if is operating as designed, will work well for you.

Those old Grants were known for their excellent receivers.

I too run the Wilson Trucker 2000. As I said I loved everything about the 880 except the receiving range. The Lincoln is more radio than I need and so is the Galaxy, except it's a pretty good deal for such a big radio. IF ONLY someone had a Schottsky diode mod or something for the 980!!!

AFAIK, the only difference is SSB.

Also, the 980 has wx- weather band. Not sure if the 880 does...
