Hello all,
Looking at buying a trailer and looking for suggestions based on experience.
Currently running a 10yr old Great Dane dry van w/ hendrickson air ride and air slider. It also has etrack, kemlite roof, plastic rub rail, wood floor and heavy steel wheels with traditional duals. It has NO aero enhancements currently.
My lightweight combined is 34,400 and looking to further reduce weight and increase payload capability and fuel efficiency.
I've been happy with the Great Dane but looking at the Utility 4000 series and they look very nice.
Any suggestions on options or other brands?
THANKS !!
Best quality lightweight dry van brand & model

I'm not sure of the model, but we run Hyundai trailers and haul heavy for a dry van. I can scale 48,800. Empty weight is 31180. Aero is a fiberglass-type skirt and wide singles.
Your 780 Volvo is going to make a difference. We saved about 2000#s when we switched from the Volvo to our current tractor. -
We have a mixed trailer fleet with Wabash, great Dane and Utility and I can't say one is better than the other. Unless your trailer is in bad shape. I would just save money and keep it

I just bought a new Hyundai HT Composite and am a little disappointed. The coating on the interior plate walls is little more than paint so it scuffs easily (after 2 months the walls look almost as bad as the 18-year old Monon it replaced). One of the slots in the logistics posts deformed just from me cranking on a ratchet strap -- I'd hate to see it after an accident. And it came with Hendrickson Vantraax suspension which I later learned are known for alignment woes (you can easily spot vantraax suspension from the larger axle tubes).
On the other hand, it came with Havco composite flooring & side skirts for ~$1500 less than a bare bones US-built trailer. Weighs 13,980 with steel duals & skirts.Last edited: Jun 5, 2015

Ok thanks for the replies so far guys!
I'm also considering the conversion to wide base singles on aluminum rims and adding aero enhancements to the old trailer. However, I'm worried about spending that much on a old trailer to begin with. -
As far as new trailers, I'm thinking Hyundai might be out because of cheaper quality.
