Since the adoption of features including EGR, DPF,DEF and SCR into freighliners, which year is considered relatively more stable , less issues and easy maintenance ?

After 2011 they are better, or before 2003, the new ones seem to be better, just remember to clean the dpf at least once a year and no idling helps it last longer. The Evolution Freightliners communicate with Freightliner and they will notify you if a problem is happening.

not all Evolution(or other) Freightliners communicate with Freightliner. virtual technician must be installed on truck for communicating.

I am not a professional mechanic, only working on my truck but, I can repeat the old trivia: The best truck engine ever made was CAT 3406 E. Imagine putting this beast in aerodynamic body - like VOLVO 780 with the right differential and transmission. You will probably get 7-8 MPG and this thing will run forever. Of course this is almost impossible to achieve, but you can still find some Freightliner Century with C-15, overhaul it and get on the road.

If you get a glider from Harrison or Fitzgeralds you can get the 6nz Cat.

Yes, you are right sir, but it will cost you around $120 k.
If you buy an old beat-up old junk Freightliner Century with CAT c-15, you can overhauled for about $ 15 k

Your right about the 120k and the 15k will be the bronze rebuild, the platinum is $22500. (You can save more if you are capable of doing the rebuild yourself). Also, that old beat up century or any old truck for that matter is going to cost a lot more than the 15 k over time. I know, I drive a 99 Pete 379 with 2 million miles on it and I also own one of the Fitzgerald gliders with the Detroit in it. I spend about 15 k per year keeping the old girl in tip top shape and it's a fine ride, everything has been rebuilt at least once and some of it has been done more than that. Take that and the down time having stuff done or doing it myself I could have paid for one of the gliders easily if that's what I chose to do. Last year the glider had 1 repair (Ac compressor) was covered under warranty and only regular pm's. In the long run I think that will be the more economical way to go.
I plan on staying in my old Pete cause I like it but also plan to buy a few more gliders when or if the economy pics up....on the flip side I can park the old girl if I had to and it won't cost me anything. The glider has to keep rolling cause in the end you still gotta make those payments.
All in what you want. Your gonna pay to ride either way.

The Pete has a Cat, 3406e. (2ws). Glider is doing great, doesn't have the power of the cat but knew that going into it. Have had the same driver in it since new and he is at 130,000 miles now.

International has a canister under some of their trucks so you don't have to buy DEF when you fuel. and international has circuit breakers in the fuse box instead of fuses like freightliner . You just push a button to reset the breaker instead of pulling a fuse that's tiny
