Hi everyone, rookie driver here. I know everyone has different views regarding what the best local driving company is but I was curious if you could let me know which local companies you have experience with or prefer. I live in the metropolitan Detroit area. Ideally Id like a line haul position if possible. I have a wife and 2 boys with disabilities so I’m unable to go OTR. Me and the wife Got to be with the kids at night. Thanks for your comments

No headset.
I'm wishing you the best and hope you're on the road soon.
I understand, somewhat, your situation, as I also have a disabled child and it's a lifetime commitment with lots of sleepless nights. -
Thanks for your message. Yeah it’s definitely a challenge. I just can’t see myself going OTR away from my kids and leaving my wife with all the work. Praying I can find a good honest local company that will take me, pay well, and be able to get home at night then transfer to FL if it’s possible
God bless your child. -
How many threads you need? Asking for a friend.....
88 Alpha Thanks this. -
Florida is great; good weather year round. Try to relocate soon.

To the original poster--most "home daily" jobs for rookie CDL drivers start you out doing night shift...& also probably working on weekends and holidays.
They also involve A LOOOOOOTTT of hours--even for local area work.
This would include delivering fuel (which I'm currently doing--but for me, it's ok--I'm single, with no dependents, or pets).
Delivering fuel or petrochemicals is NOT a good driving job for beginners--I recommend AT LEAST a couple of years previous CDL experience for those jobs.
Most line haul jobs (especially for beginners) are also on night shift duty.
Rare indeed....is the job for day shift, no prev experience, local, home daily work.
You may have better luck checking with UPS, Fedex and/or DHL for local area pickup and delivery jobs.
Those jobs are day shift (in lieu of night duty), & home daily gigs.
Still with pretty good pay, & excellent benefits.
Also...your best bet as a beginning CDL class "A" driver may be doing local P&D duty for one of the LTL carriers mentioned earlier in your other thread (like ABF, or OD--as suggested earlier, both are great options).
Those P&D positions will still be day jobs, & home daily.
It's hit or miss if they will hire you for that with no previous experience, though.
Look hard also at opportunities with YRC freight (mentioned/suggested in your other thread)--they have FREE health insurance for you, AND your Family. Hey--how cool is that?
Personally, I would recommend that you stay away from food sevice/food delivery jobs--unless you are super-duper desperate--AND also built like Sylvester Stallone. Those jobs pay great--but will work you under the table, and aggravate you into an early grave. They are also mostly night-shift work.
As mentioned earlier--moving to Florida is a swell idea. Most of my clientele are there. I think you'll like it--especially over Detroit.
But Florida isn't perfect, either--watch out for the hurricanes, gators and the sinkholes, though.
