Best Load Board for Flatbed/RGN/Step deck etc

    Good morning ladies and gents,

    I am hoping that someone can offer some assistance.

    I am an account manager at an Luxury Auto Transport firm. We regularly get requests for commercial vehicles (trucks, buses etc) that do not fit on our fleet of trucks. More often than not we have to pass on these opportunities because we simply don't have the network to be competitive or efficient.

    I would be very grateful for any advice that someone might be able to offer as to what load board would be best to reach flatbed, rgn, step deck, low boy owner ops.

    I reached out to OOIDA and the lady was kind enough to steer me to DAT Solutions' load board and I have no doubt that it is a solid solution. However, rather than spin my wheels (no pun intended=) trying the big boy, I thought that I would turn to the professionals (drivers) for advice on the matter.

    My suggestion would be to contact a agent with a company that can move your loads. Landstar, Bennett or other carriers, let the agent find and screen the trucks instead of you fielding call from oo that you have no idea about their ability to do the job. It also assures you that the truck is fully insured and you have a company with deep pockets if needed.

    Hi Old Man, Thank you for your response. My concern is that these guys are brokering loads which then both reduces my margin and makes me far less competitive.

    I completely appreciate the need to vet drivers, because we are very careful in our business. We ask for equipment pictures, review history and request insurance contact to ensure that they are up to date.

    Granted, I know that the freight world is a much bigger beast but is it that much more of a crap shoot then the auto transport world. We have dispatchers who can manage the process of carrier verification. At the end of the day, it is about being able to maximize profits and remaining competitive, which leads me to believe that going direct to oo's is the best solution.

    I have tried a few of the big boys and they charge a premium because they assume that the caller does not have the will or resources to manage the process. Am I incorrect?

    Find a local owner operator via this forum IMO. Check out his rig and him/her and see if they appear worthy of your money/business.

    Hi Matt, Thank you for the response. I need access to drivers nationwide, who drive nationwide and, at times, multiple trucks handling loads from different clients. The idea of the load board is the ability to post these loads, on the fly and hear only from drivers in the appropriate area.

    Like old man said. Best thing is to contact an established open deck carrier Like landstar bennett or mercer. Will it cost more than some one man pony show? Most likely. Premium service comes with premium charges.

    When you use a big carrier you tell them no brokering.

    One 3pl I do work for has it on their bills
    "If you broker this load we will not pay you" that is called instruction in plain English.
    Remember all agents and brokers and companies are not equal, shop around until you find someone that understands and can provide exactly what you need.

    Now that you have heard from trucks leased to big carriers ....

    There are plenty of qualified carriers that have the experience and equipment and insurance to move the oversize/overweight loads your customers have.

    The problem that we carriers run into is a lack of understanding of the type of equipment needed (be it for height, length of well or deck or weight) and the costs associated.

    Moving a 10 wide 50000 lbs piece is an entirely different animal than a 14w 100,000 piece

    Most independents will have access to ITS and one form of the DAT board or another.

    Here is an example of a load
    Moved by “some one pony show”

    Brand new from the factory
    Worth more than all the other truck loads of fall off combined.

    Moved 1600 miles on time
