What is the general consensus out there these days on the best overall trucking GPS? I had and older used Rand McNally that worked pretty well until It didnt. Havent upgraded yet but would like something that is sturdy, and could track miles on an older trucks for logs etc.

Rand McNall 750 & Garmin Dezl 700 are the most commonly usrd truck GPS. RM doesn't last as long Garmin looks better. You will get used to whatever you use. They both make certain mistakes. Also carry a RM Motor Carrier Road Atlas.
nextgentrucker, Knucklehead, Tolkien and 1 other person Thank this. -
Rand McNally hands down, I have a Rand TND 740 and a Garmin OTR 700, the Rand totally blows the Garmin away. I see quite a number of drivers that swear by Garmin but I don't see how or why, it's slow as crap figuring routes, seems to always take the longest route possible and is not very user friendly. Also see comments such as above about longevity of the Rand I still have my original TND 530 from 8 years ago and it still works have never had an issue with them going down.

nextgentrucker Thanks this. -
The rand mcnally 730 was probably the peak in the whole cycle as far as useability (before the ui update)
On the 750 now and whenever it dies im probably just going to go to a garmin. -

The 740 handled it adequately, but all its best features were from the legacy 710,720, and 730 systemstscottme Thanks this. -
Garmin dezl 710…best one I’ve had yet…updatable thru garmin app on phone too…has traffic and weather updates as well on it
Deere hunter Thanks this. -
I bought one of the fancy garmin dezl ones maybe a few months ago and returned it after 2 weeks. It was so bad at routing it’s not even funny. Every single address I entered for a load would come back with at least 5-20% extra mileage vs google maps. It would completely avoid perfectly fine 2 lane highways in favor of the interstate every time even if it added serious mileage.
I enter the address in google maps, then follow along with satellite view. If it’s acceptable I roll on. If it’s not I just make a note where I would turn instead.nextgentrucker, Sons Hero and Gridaxe5588 Thank this.
