So I've been on the road a few months, and heard many opinions on the best engines to pull hills, heavy hauls, flatbed, etc. What do you guys think? (I know a maxxforce is NOT it)
Is it cummins, CAT, Detroit, Paccar, or the original Mack?

Don't know from experience but I have heard Paccar sucks. Stay away from Mercedes. Transmission and rears gears also have a lot to do with it.

12v92. good luck keeping it fed with today's fuel prices.

wore out and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Man what I would give for my old C-15 Cat again.

Mech CAT. Less wires to go on the fritz. If ya know what yer doing you can even start it with no electricity as long as you can get the crank turning. That's dependability for your valued customer.

Nowadays cummins is the best handsdown.

Mack mp10 if I had to get a recent engine

i had a 12v92 in my 65 pete conv. and it got about 2 miles to the gallon on a good day. plus you get to carry around extra oil because it slings about a gallon every time you fuel. my thoughts about the best engine rite now would be the detroit dd15 on a new truck,or a old 12.7 detroit if you are buying a older truck. i know i will get a lot of flack out of that choice, someone will say he had a friend that had one and he had nothing but trouble with it. lots of luck on your choice
