Hi new to the site and interested in becoming a pro driver. Just wanted to know if any of the training schools here in New Jersey are rated better than others. Or if anyone has recently been through a school in NJ I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks.

Hi there,
The best CDL training school in NJ is " Jersey Tractor Trailer in my opinion. I highly recommend them. The curriculum is only 6 weeks with 3 weeks of classroom study and then 3 weeks behind the wheel time. I've just graduated from there on 6/24/14 with my Class A. Look them up on google. Guys from as far as sussex county have traveled to the school to get on their training program. Their job placement is rated the best as well. Also they have recruiters from the companies come in and talk with the students about career opportunities.Last edited: Jun 30, 2014
Recurve Thanks this. -
Thanks for your reply. Is that the school in Rutherford? How was their student / teacher ratio? I have heard some schools have long waiting lines to get behind the wheel practice every day.

I also went there. I'm from Sussex County.
Driving time was no problem at all.
I did not take any classroom instruction.
Got my CDL first try, no issues.
You and the instructor in the truck, nobody else. -
Thanks dukesings, I have also read that some schools only teach what it takes to pass dmv road test and not other things like alley docking and driving the different kinds of transmissions in different model trucks. Is that something they do or is that something you would learn on the job?

I took a "quickie" course (I drove back in days of the covered wagons)
I was in a couple of different trucks, both 10 speeds. They were big on straight back, and alley docking.
No parallel parking(not required for NJ license test)Recurve Thanks this. -
Did they help you find a job after graduation?
Chinatown Thanks this. -
I didn't need them to. I had something lined up before I went.

You don't really need job placement assistance from any school, though it may be comforting to know they offer it. Most schools just offer the usual suspects, but sometime have an inside track on little known companies. What are you interested in; van, refrigerated, flatbed, tankers?

if you go to a Smith and Soloman school
the one in Lakewood has the smallest amount of students per instructor
tell Tinane Captain Pete sent you
