Hello,
I am starting a transportation business in West Africa and one of the main things I will use are dump trucks.
I would like to get some suggestion on the which brand would stand up best on very rough and muddy roads (Freightliner, International, Peterbilt, Mack and Kenworth). Please put in order of preference. Thanks.

So what do you think of Peterbilt, International and Kenworth?

It's going to matter a lot what's under the hood no matter what you end up getting. A nice truck with a cheap engine, transmission, the wrong gearing for what you're doing, etc. won't last. And don't forget the turning radius. Kenworth built some nice dump trucks that looked and ran great but took a football field to turn around for no apparent reason.
There's a company that makes an air system that might come in handy for the tires. You can change tire pressure from inside the cab depending on the terrain. Depends on how fancy you want to get. -

That's an Articulated tandem axle, 40 ton diesel CAT makes a good one too

me, myself personally i would go with a Paccar product
probally a T800, set back front axle, yellow motor, 13, 3.73 gears or so with a 16 yard box.....might even throw on a tag axle, and plumb it for a pup
some guys dont like air ride, i never had a problem, but you have to remember to dump the air before dumping the box
walking beam suspension's are great off road, but will beat you to death on pavement

If you're talking west Africa like the continent... you might want to put some research into what trucks will be available, and more importantly, what parts and service is going to be the easiest to get.

Thanks for the great feedback. The trucks used mostly in West Africa are European trucks (Iveco, Daf, Man, Mercedes etc), but I am convinced that we have good truck here in America that will stand the rough jungle roads and heat.
Mack use to be a major brand in West Africa back in the days.
I plan to get the parts from the U.S. every few months or sooner depending on how the trucks hold up. -
900b t600 t 800 with 46,000 rears or heavier and 20,000 front axel 370-390 ratio, full lockers for steep climbs or mud,,, air ride or leaf, heavy leaf springs will tend to beat the hell out of a driver but holds up well. 400 hp to 550 hp cummins or cat engines with 13 spd trannies would be nice.
or peterbuilt set the same
In heavy dust dual air filters best or single ok to as long as you moniter the filter, either way keep a butt load of air filters on hand if your in heavy dust nothing will trash an engine faster than sucking dust.Komnah Thanks this.
