Page 17 post 168 is my packing list and about average for what you need if going to a training company.
Stack or roll or however you pack a bag but place all of this stuff so it looks like it's in a bag.
The way I look at it is this is all I need in the truck.
I advocate that the company you work for is no more than 4 hours driving time from your home.
REASON: If you get fired on the yard, you can load the car up and go home.
BUT, if you get canned out on the road and you have every cupboard and closet full and boxes of crapola under the bunk, how do you get this stuff home? Busses and airlines charge about $50 for each box up to 50 pounds. That's a lot of money to get junk home!
Get the biggest "bag" you can find! If you can carry it then heck the bigger the better just watch the weight! Busses and airlines also charge for extra weight too (especially now that Homeland Security changed the rules on cargo on passenger flights!) Another thing about the "bag" is it rolls up into a small package! Those suitcases don't and take up room in that closet you're going to be living in! A duffel bag as you said are a PIYA having to unload it to get what you want then pack the sill thing again! Not worth the trouble!
That bag will go in cargo then you'll have your carry on bag for your ditty bag and stuff that won't go in the big bag. I also fit my laptop in here if told I can't carry it on, but so far no problem with that on the airlines. ( I do not do busses!) Any thing else that's in the truck that won't fit in the 2 bags stays if I can't sell it on the CB. No big loss.
If you don't see any thing in the sports section of Walmart as that's where you'll find them or in any of the other stores go to Bass Pro but be sitting down with seat belts on as the prices they have for some really big and good bags will scare the hello out of you!
The one I use is from Outdoor, is 36"x20" and is made from ripstop nylon with a U zipper and everything on my packing list fits in it even my CB radio! My "Carry on which I also use as my shower bag is an 18"x15" but holds an awful lot.
Best bag to buy for training?

I'm surprised nobody stated the obvious, Military Surplus.
-
Rollover I read the entire thread with your list on it. Yes, I am looking at military surplus. My question is regarding the length to hold what Rollover's list says I need. I would assume that 32" is not long enough since I had one to get home at my failed Orientation at Roehl. I only had 2 pairs of jeans, 3 sweatshirts, 1 raincoat, a pair of sneakers, and a pair of boots-the bag barely closed. I can get a side zipper canvas duffel bag for $25 52"(maybe is was 42" I can't remember).

You actually need 2 bags. One for your stuff and one for your shower run. Do you really want to haul a large heavy bag into the shower room when you only need a small bag to haul a toothbrush/deodorant and clean skivvies etc? Yes, I know, you'll see drivers hauling their entire life's possessions into the showers in this huge bag. Makes no sense to me.....

I have a old bag i got from using my Marlboro points back when they did that. I use that one for showers. It is small but has a lot of pockets for my wash cloths, soap, razor, etc. It's big enough for my clean clothes and shower flip flops, but not too big and bulky.
I have another duffle bag for my extra clothes. It doesn't have many pockets but the inside is huge. I can put in 4 or 5 pair of jeans and a dozen shirts. I change shirts everyday even if I don't shower. I like a clean shirt. Plus I smoke and I don't hang up my clothes because I don't like putting on a "clean" smokey smelling shirt. I know the solution to this would be to stop smoking...but ya know...... -
Alright, since my first answer wasn't enough I'll be specific.
I carry a 21" carry on by American Tourister in Red.
I already owned this set of luggage and so it's what I used. When we originally went OTR I carried the large suitcase, but now I carry this one.
The larger suitcase becomes to heavy and to hard to handle.
I also carry a very large tote that I purchased from ABC Distributing Co. They refer to it as a duffle but it's not really it's more of a tote.
And I also carry the bag they refer to as the tote for personal items.
I also have a small bag I call my "quick bag" that I carry in to stops so I can brush my teeth, etc.
So you see.........what works for one person wouldn't always work for another.CommDriver Thanks this. -
If you can afford it, go to a sporting store and get yourself a decent dufflebag, with wheels and a handle($50-75). I got one from walmart about 6 months back just to pack clothes in and its a ripoff. Sure 20 bucks may get you a good size duffle bag, with a strap, handle, zipper compartments. But the material that the walmart ones are made of are so thin and cheap. I'm sure one oops! on the steps of a tractor and it's for sure going to be ripped in a instant. And its that material that once it gets a rip it just goes all the way to the seam. Oh and the zipper on mine is already acting up after using only a few times, cheap chinese made.

Good point.
Now walmart actually has a hell of a shower bag. I got one, i live at a campground during the summer and use shared shower stalls.
It has 3 seperate compartments 1 for shampoo,1 for conditioner, and the main for soap, razor, toothbrush, shaving cream, etc., plus the main one unzips all the way and has a hook for hanging. And it's leak proof, i know from experince =).
Let me see if i can pull it up. -
