I often see some trucks with steel whip antennas, like the Wilson 1000, with a tight bend in the whip near the top. Is this done on purpose? The rest of the antenna always looks fine. It's just the top 4 inches or so that are bent to make a 90° angle.
I notice this almost exclusively on trucks that go off road.

Slapping tree limbs will bend the tips over time. Might be something to do with clearances of loading chutes.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Yup my right side wilson 5k has a bent tip. Dang trees. Lol

I've noticed that too. Doesn't seem like tree damage. Thought maybe it was to keep the wind from swinging it backwards.
I also saw a full whip setup on a truck. Gave me an idea instead of dealing with these expensive ones. -
Bending up top shouldn't alter Swr.
poppapump1332 Thanks this. -
It's because of hitting bridges, tree limbs, etc nothing to do with swr's.
rabbiporkchop and slim shady Thank this. -
