Working w/QDA I decided to broaden my choices for loads by applying for a job w/Bennett. I spent 5 days in GA, orientation was a two day affair w/5hr of actual class, no loads outta McDonough, GA... Previously I was near orientation cities; Salina, McDonough, ready to attend, and orientation would be cancelled. A drug test is required, and expires after 30 days. Finally after 3 drug tests, I finally attended the orientation in McDonough, GA and stranded myself. I do not tow, and move by Greyhound, shuttle and taxi. I do love this kind of work, you pick your location of where you would like to go; preferably a place that is easy to get transportation out of. Before you accept a load, know that you have access to transportation out! The dispatchers are great to work with, and if you need help w/taxi expense, podunk USA, generally dispatch will help with 50% of that expense. Ask for help, and get approved before you accept the load. I had two paycards, and two fuel cards, and picked up a truck; a new account for me, where I needed to use a fuel card. Fuel cards are set up to give you exact amount of gallons to get to the consignee. I used my paycard by accident, all the cards look alike, and thought they wanted me to deliver the truck w/full tank. Called my dispatch, and he said that others had done this before, and to call the corporate office. I knew that they would reimburse for the $78 fuel surcharge, and was happy that they did. I pumped $464 of fuel into that truck. The Driver Manager; Mr. T told me I was stupid, and that I was to stupid to work for Bennett. I had to call corporate on three different occasions about not receiving pay for loads, and would cringe every time that I had to call. The lady in charge of getting paid; I'll call her CAB, wouldn't listen to anything I had to say, and threatened to hang up on me, all three times. Hey, the work was good, and you can get hometime whenever you need it. God forbid that you should ever need to resolve a problem, and have to call the corporate office. I've heard horror stories from other Bennett drivers; vehicle malfunctions, flat tires... these have been paid for by the driver, out of your bond... You, as a contract driver, are not an employee of Bennett, and Bennett does not have a slush account, they will make their money, unfortunately at the driver's expense. If you are working w/another company when you apply w/Bennett, Bennett will hire you. But, if you are working w/Bennett and try to work w/another company; such as QDA, Bennett will fire you... I've seen it happen!
