I recently joined the skateboard gang, no issues besides D.O.T around my area is getting more strict on belly straps...so what kind of belly strapping tools have y'all came up with? Need ideas so I can make my own...doesn't seem to be anything on the market so any and all ideas I am willing to consider, because not every place breaks the load down for belly strapping purposes...

I like a piece of rebar, it gets through smaller areas than other things I've seen and if you are a little bit clever you can even get it to bend as needed with the strap if you can't go straight through.
Riprap, FerrissWheel and donnielford Thank this. -
Keep an eye out for some 2" metal banding. It's stiff enough to push through the small gaps and rolls up decent enough for storage.

4-5 feet long piece of 3/8 steel rod. Bend a 5" wide piece at one end at a 90* angle. Bend a Triangle Handle into the other end and weld it back on itself. Make sure the handle and strap holder are parallel.

10' piece of 1/2" copper pipe, flatten one end & drill a hole in it. Most times I can push the strap through, if not I'll zip tie it to the hole & pull it.

About 20 feet of 2 inch metal banding material.
Flexible to bend around things, Flat, so it fits into small spaces. Strong, wont break and will pull chains or straps.
Easy to bend a hook in one end. In rare situations If need be, a zip tie or some duct tape will make sure and keep things together.
Roll it up when done, wrap a bungee around it and toss into tool box.
Have had the same one going on 12 years.
Think it was a cast iron pipe place that I picked up the stuff.Last edited: Feb 25, 2017

I use a simple piece of 6ft x 3/8" steel fuel line with a J bend on one end to pull chains and a L bend on the other to push or pull straps.
It's flexible enough to contort between different layers of a load that aren't a straight shot across the trailer, but strong enough that the J&L bends don't easily lose their shape (unless you yank the snot out of it).
I also use it to snag edge protectors off the top of load after I'm unstrapped and ready to deliver.tucker, FerrissWheel, Razororange and 1 other person Thank this. -
I use a piece of all thread rod, bent off at one end

Broom handle. But I think I'll be stealing @Riprap s idea.
