I'm in Montgomery New York right now for a 34 hr reset. Is there anyone who can tell me where to go or help me get my lights setup for oversize? I'd be willing to pay. Thanks

Truck or trailer dealers, or truck parts like truck/pro have all you need, low sleeper you can put an arm to the back of sleeper where Q/com mounts, hi bunk can have 2 strobes on mir. arms be sure to mount them hi. enough not get in your eyes all trip long
Big_Red Thanks this. -
Are you at the TA in Maybrook at exit 5, or the Pilot at exit 6 in Newburgh?
The TA would have beacons (you'll pay,) or if you're on your 34 hour reset and have time, there's a Peterbilt dealership across the road from the Pilot off exit 6. If nothing else, they'll direct you to a truck parts dealer in that town somewhere to buy the stuff you need. Gotta have "oversize load" signs front & rear too, and flags on all 4 corners. depends how wide/long you are, and where you're headed too cuz there's never a standard for everything as we all know.
Beacons have to be visible in a 360 degree radius...that's tough depending on the truck to mount them on. One on each mirror arm, two on the rear of the trailer will cover it, or one centered, provided the load is short and the light can be seen from both sides...it's a tricky situation to set up temp. lights for sure...grabbing power back there, etc. I cobbed up wire from the light up to the plug/pigtail, I tapped into junction boxes...depends on your level of ingenuity. -
Ok thanks. My boss found a place in jersey i think. I didn't think about it not clearing 13'6. I have the double sleeper and I know it has to be seen from every angle. Thanks for the input. Are the mirror arms my only option with a double sleeper?

Unless you have sleeper extensions/fairings with a hole up top, to bolt a light to somehow...the mirrors make it easiest to run power to them too.(down to the cab.) -
starting to see trucks have them mounted under the front bumper now. those small rectangular flashing beacons.

Im at the maybrook ta. I bought the flags and banners here. The beacon light they have has a plug for a cigarette lighter so I'm pretty sure that's not what I'm looking for. Says it's magnetic but I'd have to have more wire to chop the lighter extension off and extend it to something. The freight liner dealer says they don't have any. I was going to get it done in New Jersey on the way to pick up....but this load might not get picked up. I found out I have to have a sealink card as well and my twic hasn't arrived to the location at home. They were going to fax me paperwork stating I do have a card but nothing has shown up. I think I'll have to let it go for now until I'm better prepared. I hate rushing and cutting corners when it comes to stuff like this. Something always goes wrong when you do.baha Thanks this. -
No doubt there. That's probably a blessing in disguise anyways. Now you can plan things better for the next OS load you get. Set up some lights that you can hardwire in if you do any amount of OS hauling...like snowy said, you can mount the oval flashers under front bumper, and then have the same or even round ones mounted on the trailer. All kinds of options really. I've had to buy the 12V cigarette plug style and cut the plug off and find juice somewhere, in a truck stop like you're doing in the past. Just makes for a half-done, sloppy job doing things like that.Big_Red Thanks this. -
Depending on size and stAte you may not need lights. Those popcorn lights at truck stops are worthless. Go to trailer dealers to get what you need.

I have a set of magnetic strobes that I carry in the truck that I take out and plug into the little light socket receptacle on the rear of the trailer. The strobes on the truck are mounted on a bracket and the bracket is bolted to the bunk extensions. It's a KW high rise.
A mentioned earlier, make sure the truck strobes are high enough that they don't flash in your mirror.
