I have a fleet of Motorola Radius CM200s in all of our school buses. Im looking at buying a few BaoFeng UV-5Rs for the compound (bus shop) to use for communication with the buses. We operate on UHF freq. 464.27500. Will the BaoFeng UV-5Rs work with the Cm200's?

There are a couple factors involved, first is if you are part of a trunked or repeater system, then no.

The other and more important is if you are going to buy the $35 BaoFeng used for amateur radio, then no you can't because they are not legal for commercial use.

I would talk to your radio vendor you use to service your system.

We're actually not like a school district or anything, the buses are privately owned. We have 5 2008 Internationals and 5 Thomas C2s. Would that still be commercial? We really dont even run a business, its just a small bus group with a trailer as an office lol

You are using commercial radios on a commercial frequency so your license has to be a commercial license tied to a business name. The radios you want to buy are amateur radios programmed for amateur use which is not allowed on business or commercial bands.

Doesn't matter if it is privately owned, you should have a license tied to the radios.

Are the buses used to generate revenue? If so then I would think you are a commercial business. Ridgeline was correct. Are you licensed or operating under a radio businesses license or were the radios in the buses when you bought them?

As the others said, the BaoFeng radios are not type accepted for commercial use. All it takes is 1 call from the Motorola salesman to get the Fed's involved and a cease and desist letter form the FCC. At that point the Motorola salesman will have you by the gonads, and will not cut you much of a discount, if any. The BaoFeng radios have really bad deviation, and if you have another licensed station adjacent to the channel you are licensed for you will most likely cause interference. As they say, you get what you pay for, and sometimes saying a dollar will cost you at least 10 to fix.
