Could you direct me as to where I might find such an animal,
    thanks in advance!

Sent email to Caterpillar filter products manager, asking for filter/water separator recommendation for slightly modified C15. (Was actually looking for a larger version of the 8H-7204, which is the permanent screen type of f/ws).
His recommendation was the 326-1643 which he stated "has more than adequate flow for ALL C15 applications, and is heavily used in Cat Off-Highway equipment. "
He did not give me any specs. The local Cat house guys were very familiar with that filter, and stock it, saying it is used on the larger dozers (D9, D10, D11), and other applications using the 35 series engines, (i.e. the 3512).
One of the filter bases offered for the 326-1643 is #202-9871, which is what I bought, however if you are interested, Google 326-1643 Cat filters, and check out the base that has the electric pump built into it; nice set-up! Can be to prime filters only, or run all the time. I priced it, :biggrin_25521:
($500+), so guess I will be mounting an automotive type fuel pump to prime my filters.

    josh.c Thanks this.

That is one type, lucas make them as well. They've been around forever, and I do mean forever. Used to be just about all diesels had one kind or another but fuel has cleaned up to a point where they don't install them as often, but it would be nice because you still get bad batches now and then ( and I still have visions of that one truckstop owner out in the midwest who was standing over his storage tank with a garden hose cutting his fuel )

    Thats it!
Had I not already purchased the other base, I might have sprung for that electric pump model, but....
I'd really like to find a good, high flow, permanent screen type of water trap that I could put in front of that setup to try and prolong the life of those darn expensive f/ws.

Thanks, thats what I'm looking for, but did you see the price?????:biggrin_25521:
Course, at $47/per for my f/ws, it wouldn't take long to pay for that Dahl unit.

Yup, crooked sucker . Years ago some of those stations had aggitators in the storage tanks to help keep the fuel flowing out the pumps in the winter and a handful of independent crooked truckstop owners out in the middle of nowhere out in Wyoming , Nebraska , Montana and the like figured out that in the summer they could get away with cutting their fuel with water to increase profits. ( couldn't do it in the winter because everyone would know in a heartbeat where the bum fuel came from ) I used to think it was an old wives tale till I actually saw that turkey doing it, fuel truck pulled out, cap still off, he dragged the hose up and started pouring. Considering the population of the area, local law enforcement was probably all related so wasn't worth sticking my nose in where it would probably just wind up getting me fined for something.

Removing the water separator, to save a couple of dollars three times a year, you do realise that water will blow the tip off your injectors if it gets to them. Lets see now save a dollar and risk a thousand minimum, if it damages a turbo, Make that 5 total. The Davco fuel filter system is by far the very best, cheapest to replace, most efficient.

Hanadarko go to a junkyard and buy a Davco unit. Probably cost you less than a hundred bucks and you can mount it yourself. They come on many trucks and if you look a little you should be able to find one that is heated
