We don't "Reverse" in traffic with paving dump trucks. Not unless flaggers and walls or cones have closed the one lane you are supposed to use to back to paver.

When backing to paver, watch the line of your bed, it needs to be aimed at the end roller on your side of the paver you are backing to.

The reason you allow your truck to start wriggling is possibly not moving that steering wheel enough, you have to get to work on that wheel and move enough back and forth to keep her straight.

There is no reason to stress about this. There should already be a man on that paver telling you exactly what to do when to do it and you obey him instantly, without thought, debate or questioning. You don't even think. Just do what you are told.

Maybe your right... I think the trainer guy has some fascination with me backing up.

Last night there was a truck on an angle.... I checked and make sure I would clear the truck till but trainer was telling me no and said im too close... He cant even see from his seat properly. Anyway... This made me stress out because I endes up doing some crazy zigzag pattern to avoid truck and backing into machine...guy on asphalt machine kicked me out of truck and asked trainer to drive because he knew I was new after seeing me back up like a I didnt know what I was doing.

I really dont think my backing up is great, but my trainer has something to do with it as well

Ya that's what I thought you meant.I drove a dump truck for three seasons. You just need to relax and back slowly.Focus on the area you're backing into and the back of your dump. What material do you mainly dump or pick up?

I would be worried about you zigzagging to my paver too. Maybe afraid you dump the entire load into the thing and over the people trying to run it.

In fairness, backing a dump truck or box truck is exactly the same as you back a freaking car. Nothing to it. Really. If the trainer is barking in that right seat, kick his ### out. Tell him GOAL... (Get out and look, aka be a spotter for you.)

Or.. be proactive. Tell him to shut up or back it himself, then jump out.

This does not seem to go well. Settle down and ease her back to the paver in a steady crawl in the lowest reverse you have. (The one I had was a 15 speed stack either 15 forward or 15 reverse which is a hoot at 70 mph...)

Ease to the paver. Don't you bump the thing or raise the bed without being told to.

For some of you think that I am pretty unruly in dump truck work We were literally three people and collect a shovel man or two each morning back in the day. If I told someone off, I will either get profanity back or taught why. Sometimes a little bit of violence too. I did that work for a while and it was one of my favorite jobs or close to it. It was the closest thing to trucking freedom without logs, DOT or state police sniffing on everything all the time.

I did end up backing into the paver straight... Stopped. The guy didnt give me no signals just jumped off paving machine....the while avoiding the truck when I was clearly clear of it messed me up. The other thing is the machine that we back broke down...so alot of time was wasted...and I think the paving crew was stressed out and in a rush so after seeing that they were probably like wtf

Ah. now it makes sense. Enjoy your time. Rest easy, take a drink. don't stress about anything. SO what if the #### thing broke down, you are paid either hourly or daily. Everyone knows what needs doing so rest easy. It will take a certain amount of time to hammer out the wtfs.
