So ive been driving about three years now and the last year has been pulling doubles. Ive been thinking that I never really knew how to back a trailer untill this last year. The short trailers are so #### eager to get off track on you when youre backing them up... I was thinking that all new drivers should spend some time in the yard fooling around with the short buses...i mean trailers... what do you guys think?

Yeah the pups, shorties are really tricky if you're used to 53's. It makes people look like noobs sometimes lol

The shorter the wheel base, the faster it reacts so it is very easy to over steer then over correct and then look like a stone cold rookie.

Place I used to work at had little triaxle dump wagons for the 1ton pickups....the front axle was maybe 6' from the pintle ring....that thing would #### off so #### fast if the front axle bit....

With a single screw daycab tractor, no problems. With a road tractor and 100 more inches of wheelbase, twin screw...challenging.

I had to move a 28 foot pup trailer at a customer a few years ago. I can back a 53 foot trailer up blind folded. I could not put that thing in a hole to save my life. The yard jockey finally came around and fully understood the situation. Told me to just drop it and he would put it away. It was a rude awakening to reality for me.

Usually 25-30 years of experience will fix that. After that many years a driver has got the hat and bought the t-shirt.
