Had a load on my spread axle trailer putting me at 79,990 total,,rear spread was 34,980 on CAT scale,,Oregon POE had me weigh each axle separately and he came up about 900 pounds heavier than the two axles showed when both were on the scale before he weighed them individually,,he did not cite me but he threatened to do so next time,,he refused to recognize that his combined weight added separately was higher than what displyed on his scale when both axles were on the platform,,and no,none of the tires were near the edge to not read correctly,,,anyone had this happen to them???

the reason you are allowed 40k on a spread....it is considered 2 single axles....which are good for 20k each&many states eill hold you to that...no more than 20k on an axle....not a combined 40k....

My point was by weighing each axle separately he came up with a higher number than the two combined weight showed,,I attribute this to the air ride compensating for the movement of the scale platform while the other axle remained on solid ground,,how else could the two axles add up to be more than when weighed as an axle group?

Hogwash. Oregon is famous for weighing individual axels at their scale houses. Has nothing to do with portable scales.

Had a similar situation in Ohio. The platform wasn't long enough for the spread. Scale master made some comments over the loud speaker as I crossed the scale but didn't pull me around back. I went straight to the truck stop and weighed it. I was no where near 40k on the spread.

I could see the hassle if the spread was 8 feet. But not if its more then 8.
