I was on some website & I read an article that said Averitt Regional drivers make about $23,000/year on average wich is equivalant to like $11/hr.

That doesnt seem right at all, that sounds like some bullcrap. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

    I can indeed help you.

I can confirm, that I can deny that I know how they pay

on a more serious note, don't all websites have a toll free number that you can actually call and ask if that may be a misprint?

Are you talking about their LTL side or their "truck-load" side? I can believe that if you're on their truckload side but I suspect their part-time dock hands make at least that much on their LTL side.

Their truckload side used to be little freight base that was reliable, so to help, you sat a lot waiting on LTL relays (2 10's back-to-back was common) to run all night, then this would essentially kill your truckload opportunity for the next day or two. But that's been a long time ago while I was recovering from a divorce and not thinking clearly. But I suspect things have not changed much on the truckload side given what Averitt is (an LTL carrier dabbling in dry truckload segment that is already over-supplied with trucks)

If you go with Averitt, work on the LTL side or go elsewhere is my advice.

Here in Richmond, VA I worked with a guy that went over there as a city driver and they started him at $19. I don't think they pay overtime though which makes it a no-go for me.

I work for Averitt, though not Regional, and that sounds too low. The company pay and conditions and schedules are based on accounts. So the 1 big trucking company is better thought of as a bunch of smaller companies all wearing the same colors. My part of the company is among the lower-paid parts of the big company and we make well above the number you mentioned.

For accurate info you need to contact drivers in THAT part of the company you are interested in. In general, Shuttle drivers (terminal-to-terminal) make the most money, city drivers next higest, the OTR drivers at some "terminals" with experienced "dispatchers" make the next highest, and then dedicated drivers make whatever the individual account pays, which can be quite good or better than a sharp stick in the eye.

That sucks, before I left the Telecom/IT industry that was starting to be the mindset with many place. The ol' "We'll pay you as good as we get paid" way of thinking. F That! My job is my job and my time is worth what it's worth regardless of what the company gets. If they can't get paid well for what their doing, why take on a cheapskate account? The funneling the loss down to the driver way of business is a scumbag move to say the least. When I was still doing beer (only a couple months ago) The company based salaries on a combination of "base salary" and commission based on pkgs on the truck. The driver had ZERO control over what an acct took, in reality so did the "salesman". So in the end all it was, was a way to funnel ALL company loss, cheap accounts, low volume accts and slow season losses down to the drivers. While they (company) and the salesman still raked it in regardless.

You might have misunderstood what I was saying about pay at Averitt. OTR drivers get the same pay rate, maybe some difference for seniority or experience, I don't do OTR. All Shuttle drivers are paid alike, and city drivers paid alike, but the dedicated accounts where Averitt provides a fixed number of tractors, trailers, and drivers, maybe yard trucks and drivers those pay different amounts to drivers. You are told before you get hired what your pay will be and you can judge if it's suitable. My account pays by the hour, has fixed hours,2 guaranteed vacations, and home every night. Averitt is charging this customer more than the last few trucking companies and this customer is happy to pay more because unlike the others before Averitt we have NEVER stopped the production line. The previous companies stopped the production line one or more times each year, which costs the customer many thousands of dollars every minute. Averitt isn't shifting costs or risks to drivers to save money, in fact they pay me for every hour I work even if a shipper is holding me at the dock. The companies we took this account from paid their drivers by the mile or by the load, that seems to me to put the problem on the driver and protect the trucking company. It's a good company and we have a huge percentage of drivers that stay and retire. It doesn't fit every driver, you'll never go out west or drive a fast truck. To each their own.

I have a phone interview with someone from Averitts HR department on Wednesday morning. My recruiter said after that she will call me & try to figure out an orientation date for me. I applied for a Regional, work 5 days, home for 34-48 hours spot in Greensboro, NC. I am almost finished with CDL school, I have 3 classes (Saturdays) left.

Seems like a great company, if all goes well I should find myself at orientation, my driving record & background check will clear with no problem. Any advice or input you wanna give me?

I had my phone interview, it went well, my background, MVR & previous employers all cleared. My recruiter is gonna call me back this week & go over the final bit of paperwork/hiring process stuff.

Looks like orientation will be the 24th of August.
