So I’ve been driving for 7 months and was offered a job at Averitt Express. I think it’s a good opportunity so I plan on taking it. My worry is the background check though.

For context I was pulled over in VA in my personal vehicle and given a ticket for 15 over which is written up as wreckless. The thing is, I was going less than 5 over. There was a larger pick up that sped past me and I believe they are who was caught on radar. I took it to court, showed my dash cam and it seemed like the judge agreed. Rather than throw it out though, they gave me the condition that if I have no traffic violations until July 26th it will be thrown out. I have never had a ticket and I don’t intend on starting now so I’m not worried about that. My worry is that since it’s still on going it will affect my background check for Averitt.

I was not convicted and it’s going to be completely thrown out in a few months. Will this affect my check do you think, or will I be good since I was never convicted and shouldn’t be when it’s all said and done?

You weren’t convicted. Don’t mention it. You are not lying.

Your DMV record should match what is on your application. A deferred judgment should not be there, However, I know of a few times it showed up. Pull your driving record and see what is on it before you fill out the application.

This is good advice, thank you. I pulled my MVR and it is not listed at all. The whole situation is frustrating because the judge pretty much admitted I was not at fault but implied that doing it this way will “price” I’m a good driver. It should have been dismissed outright but I guess I can’t get to upset being VA and all.

Sounds like you got a "Deferred Adjudication" . You should check your driving record
