Hello, for those of you who have DEF engines what is your average cost for fill-ups per month and what is your average monthly mileage.

I'm curious about what the expense would be with regional 1500 - 1700 mile weekly

I'm company but keep very detailed trip records.

Over the last 19 months and 2 trucks, Volvo 670 and kw 680 avg DEF consumption is 251.3 mpg at an averaged cost of .011 cpm.

KW does slightly better than the Volvo.

My monthly miles are between 12,500 and 13,500

I'm more worried about the repair starting at $1900 for a cleaning. O&O

I use about 20 gal a week summer and 30 gal a week winter. But I gross 140,000 lbs.
I've seen DEF on the road for as much as $23 for a gal jug. I buy it by the tote (275 gal / 1040 litre) for $0.55/litre ($2.08/gal) as I get home every weekend and bring some extra with me.

    Badmon and truckthatpassesyouby Thank this.

I had mine replaced at 8,000 hrs. Cost was $2,500 for brand new filters, clamps and labour total. DD15.

Wow!! I just never realized how expensive DEF is. An unnecessary expense created by the government. A whole entire phony industry built up around it. An international company called Brenntag is the largest distributor of DEF in the world. They must be laughing all the way to the bank.

Have they ever figured out how to keep it from freezing up in extreme cold temps? How much does it cost to thaw out when it freezes up and has you stranded?

I'm pretty sure your trailer brakes will freeze much sooner than your def system. For a California truck it's not an issue
