Kinda reminds me of the CVS account up here.
Ryder "used" to have a lock on drivers. But drivers quit on a daily basis. For the past several years now, many other driver leasing companies have been supplementing the Ryder pool, as Ryder can no longer hire drivers, willing to break thier backs at each delivery.
I highly suspect, this is why that company recruits from the school they know they can get cheap, and very hungry labor.
If it is a company worth working for, they need not go to schools and recruit, in fact, it would be so hard to get a job there, you would need to know someone. -
I would think that if there were drivers for Auto Zone that just totally thought the place sucked they would eventually find their way here and post about it. But then again maybe not.
I know one thing. After all the research I have done trying to pick a first company to go with, it pretty much seems to be a crap shoot for the most part. Pick one and hope for the best -
That's about all anyone can do.
Maybe they are good to work for, but when a company goes to a school to recruit, especially someone like AutoZone, where dedicated deliveries are important, I find it difficult not to believe they pay student driver well, or treat them fairly. I suggest, that if you are hired, be the best you can be, and watch the screw ups. It may take only ONE screw up and you are fired.
Best of luck to you. -

Honestly I am so confused right now I am not sure where I will land. I guess I will end up wherever the good Lord see's fit -
This is kind of late, but I just joined this site and I drove for Auto Zone in Hazleton, Pennsylvania for a little while. The pay was .51 per mile plus $18 per stop. Good equipment and you only stay out one night at a time maximum. The downfall was that everything is based on seniority. When you are the newest guy, you are constantly on call and covering everyone's route. I would get a call at 5PM to leave for Maine at 10PM. Always covering runs to NYC, Philly, Boston, etc. It's worse than OTR because you are working OTR hours and still having to commute. The good thing is that if you can stick it out for a year and get set routes, a lot of guys only work 4 days a week and make good money with good equipment. I left because I was offered a local job that was better for my family.
tmslogistics Thanks this. -
I know all my buddies in Tuson only sorta like driving for them and a lot of the time do solo trips, it was one of those places to get a job when things got bad now the economy is slightly better so everyone is jumping ship to better things
