I was looking over chaining regulations in Colorado and I saw that Autosocks are legal. Does anyone use them instead of chains? What do you think of them?

The only state that allows them is Colorado. And they rip, get worn, etc. the technology isn't quite there yet.

For trucks? As far as I knew it they were only legal in Colorado. I love the idea of them, so much easier than chaining.

I think that they are referring to cars and pickup trucks only, on another page it states that OR, CA, and WA require steel links for semi's.

Really would have been nice for cars though when we lived in IN and AR still. Stay parked down in AL for a day and it us usually gone then.

Like I said, they would be great, 10 seconds a tire. But the technology isn't there yet. Almost.

    Washington State Patrol website comments:
“I can’t use regular cable chains because there’s not enough clearance in the wheel well. What other approved traction devices can I use?”
It is recommended you consult the vehicle owner’s manual to see what the manufacturer suggests. The following alternative traction devices are certified by their manufacturer as meeting or exceeding chain requirements in accordance with WAC 204-24-035 and are therefore considered approved for use when “Chains Required” signs are posted:
    • For passenger cars the following alternative traction device is approved: AutoSock
    • For vehicles or vehicle combinations over 10,000 pounds:

    1. With five or less axles: AutoSock
    2. With six or more axles: No alternative traction device has been certified by a manufacture as meeting the requirements for approval.

Good to know Snowwy. Thanks. Maybe Oregon and Cali can get into that too.
