I wanted to start a thread where trucking company owners can shed light on the industry, alot of people tend to post and have an opinion, leading to alot of misimfomation. if you drive a pick up or dont have your own authority and a real 8 car or better hauler, feel free to ask but please dont advise or make claims of success unless you are willing to prove it.This is a tool to provide new people legitimate truths, im going to start with a list of sensible practical steps to get startedi will start now.Short cuts cost you
1 Im considering buying a dually ,No
2 THE VERY FIRST STEP IS TO OBTAIN A CLASS A COMBINATION WITH AIR,and medical card
3 if your asking questions about the industry you need to educate yourself through working in it
4 There are smaller companies out there that will hire you and train you [with the cdl i mentioned) to haul a real carhauler making more money than a dually or less than 6 hauler The going rate for a newb is 25 percent after fuel,6-8 k per month if you hustle
5 Dont damage cars ,it will be a very short carreer
6 The profit margins in your own truck are generally 40 percent, your already making a third more than a dually with a dispatcher and office support with a zero over head while learning.
7 While you are working you will be a contractor. set up a corperation, with business account and credit card,Write yourself a minimum pay check saving as much money as possible
8 After you feel comfortable with your job and like it apply for a dot number,mc number, start a bare bones non ownership commercial insurance policy for 1 year, you will no longer be considereed a new adventure
9 Now it gets interesting ,what to buy, keep in mind youll need 20 percent down and good credit, youll know what to look for since you have driven other peoples stuff,i perfer pre emission pete truck with a d60 thats old but over hauled fresh paint new plumbing with a boydston non screw trailer and headrack, with sliding decks on all topps, this truck will out perform a bran new one everyday, and in my opinion if it is immaculate its worth 100,000 regaurless of year.these truck may need minor work, but will almost never leave you stranded, with much cheaper repair bills, down time kills home time and makes brokers angry
10 After you have done this you will need to insure vehicle,20 percent down, obtain ifta, 80,000LBS,iRp,unified carrier, heavy use tax,it will cost about 6-8 k .which alot of people on this site can help you
    11 Make the money
12 prepare for new entrant saftey audit

I'm confused; partially, by reading the massive run-on "common sense list" and partially by the reason for writing this list? Are you the gold standard in owner op car hauling? Guess so.. smh

No im telling people that short cuts cost you,if you want to get in car hauling, this is the most profitable ,safest common sense way.why would anyone start a business making a third less with an almost certain failure.when in a year and a half have a business that makes 240-480k a year.depending on how much you want to work.By the way im a carhauler business Owner not an owner op

Well, I'll agree that in pretty much everything, short cuts will end up costing you. I don't know the carhauler game, but I think many on this site would agree that a dually is never gonna do as well as a semi. But to each his own, right?

Lol, whatever. Before you post another thread, proofread the page, and add punctuation.

No, you're correct. But when you post your opinion as fact (per the thread title), might as well do it in a way people can understand, otherwise they might not take these "facts" seriously.

Either way, I'm not debating whether you know your stuff or not. You probably do. I don't, and I'm not trying to say I do. My comments are based on the way you are portraying your opinions and experiences as fact.

Everyone has different experiences and opinions and it doesn't make them a "fact" for someone else.

    That's all

Believe it or not these are facts, any real players in the business will agree.the problem here is alot of blind are leading the blind. If its not pointed out ,it will continue.thats is why at the beggining of my post i asked that anybody was free to ask questions ,but i was not looking for any input from people who didnt know the carhauling business. Now my first reply is from a person that has no idea about the business, its kind of like a gardner telling a farmer how to do his job.The smart response from you would be why one of the Facts that i stated were true, and i would fill you in from there.backing it up with numbers and facts, understand?i would also be willing to bet that a large percentage of the real haulers that got in this way. Would have appreciated advice up front, espescially since you can buy a truck that makes triple the money for less than the cost of a new pick up

    Yoyoredrum Thanks this.
