Searching through these forum, I’ve noticed most of you are getting 6-7, sometime 8mpg, where as in Australia nearly everyone I talk to reports figures of 4, maybe 5mpg, some as low as 3!

    Why the difference?

Note: in Australia we use km/L or L/100km, I’ve converted this to US MPG for ease of discussion.

80,000 pounds is generally the maximum, often lower, no road trains like you have
How heavy and how many trailers and what lengths can the trailers be? What are the maximums?

Most list the economy figures for “single” or “double”. For my state, single = 1x 45’ trailer, up to 42.5t (93,500lb) GCM. Double or B-double = 2x trailers, 68.5t (150,700lb). We do have A-doubles, which are 30m long and up to 85.5t (188,100lb), but owner drivers don’t run them.

The figures I listed above is for singles..

Not sure really then. Some drivers here don't haul heavy very often and may drive on flatter ground. I am almost always between 78000-80000 and I get between 5 and 6. Or about 2.1 - 2.5 km/L. If I face a strong headwind all day or am doing lots of mountain driving it can dip to 2.0 or 1.9. The wind is what hurts me more than the mountains. I don't drive an aerodynamic truck, I expect an aerodynamic truck MAY increase my fuel mileage by maybe .5 mpg on the average and is not something I am willing to do at this point. The guys claiming they are getting 8+ mpg are likely very light weight, on flat roads and with generally low wind areas.

Hmmm ok, so my dream of getting 7-8mpg out of a 12.7 S60 is going stay a dream? Haha

    At 93,500 - yes
I had a s60 12.7 pre emission doing same work as now. Averaged 6 - 7 mpg. 2.5-3.0 km/L. I am convinced the emissions systems are to blame for approximately 1 mpg loss on the average. Saving the planet though.....

Bugger the planet, it’s stuffing up my bottom line!

    So, I might be able to crack 3km/L with a 12.7 S60?

What’s the 2004 Cummins Signature like on fuel in comparison?

I was lucky to crack 3.0 km/L with mine. It happened, but was a rarity. One of those things, driving west to east and the wind is behind your back for the most of it.

I have no experience with early cummins engines. Only the latest cm2350.

Not that I’d ever be able afford one, but what are the latest Cummins like on fuel?
