    Hi,

Just need info on transmission specs. I've searched online and there is limited info. I want to know reliability, easy of maintenance etc.

Just curious as a truck came up for sale and it has this type of tranny. I do know that maybe parts here in the US will be pretty hard to find.

    Any info will help.

try to find as VT1412 in EU. really in EU volvo calls 14 st tranny as 12 st becouse low gears are marked ad C (Crawler). 14 - is the top torque tranny is designed for, so it is 1400 NM, and really they use this tranny on FM trucks with 380 HP enginerys. But tranny is not so weak.

Try to find transmission ID plate on top of bellhousing, you can easily find parts numbers with Impact On Line using this ID, but some parts are in EU only.

Really this tranny is popular, really popular, but IMO, I like fuller for cheapper parts.

I saw VT on conventinals but I'm not sure is it sychro version ore not. With synchro Volvo install clutch servo (you can depress it so easily, like in car) but you can skip gears and use clutch for shifting, like you drive a car.

    Excellent info! Thanks Pablo.

The guy that had it said it has full lockers on both axles and that the tranny had a low-low gear. Crawler like you mentioned.

He said it would be excellent logger or heavy hauler with the 14 speed tranny.

The truck has really low original miles, around 400k miles for a 1995.

what engine? VT1414 was used with low power D12A-C engines. In EU 6 gears and splitter were synchro, C-(low-low) and R had no synchro. Tranny had no brake.

what a truck? Wight? ore Early FH/FM? what engine?

Really old Volvos were sweet, but unfortunatly it is not so easy to find so old truck in good shape....

the truck is in a 1995 Volvo 425 HP with all Volvo drivetrain. (This makes me weary here in the States as parts [might/will be] hard to find.) It has ~400k original miles. Another issue is that good Volvo mechanics are going to be hard to find.

Tell me what this picture shows? Regular D12 ?

This is D12A, the first one, was made from '93 to '98. Really old engine, mechanically it is similar the d12d and D12C.

As I can see 380HP version

Engine ECM is very simple, does not support J1587 and J1939 so cant be used with newer auto transmissions.

The ECM core is weak, so newer use non Volvo priming pump. Exessive fuel pressure destroys ECM cooler and boards inside. Use only priming pump on filter unit.

Really it was greate truck, but so hard to find in good condition
