As I mentioned elsewhere, after quite a bit of struggle I finally got Atlas qualified (that is, certified to do interstate household moves for Atlas Van Lines).
Did my first run a couple weeks ago and the pay came in this past Friday, which I hope is an indicator that I have a solid future with this company.
Gross was $1824.07.
Net after labor expenses and taxes was $1093.33.
Trip was just across the state line, picking up 4000 lbs of furniture in company straight truck (had to go up a narrow gravel driveway to a residence in the mountains), only hired 1 helper, was home the same day.
Once I got the truck back to the lot my work was done. Furniture was unloaded the next day into our storage warehouse by laborers paid on company dime.
In talking with other drivers, this job wasn't typical pay. They've said company commission drivers make "About $300/day", "$1300-1400/week", "60-80k/year", and all those figures are in about the same range so I would guess they're accurate.
But geez, if Atlas is trying to keep me hooked by kicking things off with an >$1000 net 1-day job, their strategy is definitely working. Really can't imagine how else a rookie company driver (albeit with plenty of moving/straight truck experience) would make that kind of money on ANY day with no endorsements, nothing.
My view on this company has shifted from skeptical-negative to cautious-positive. Definitely glad I stuck it out. Just need to see more jobs coming in (dead season for moving at the moment), hourly local work is that much harder to go back to now!

$1,000 a day sounds great, but I’d be in traction after about a week of heaving couches and coffee tables. No Thanks

Delivery into storage is always the best. On military and government shipments I’d tell the customer, see you Tuesday and then drive all night and unload in a warehouse on Monday.

Good for you. Keep going. Me? This old tired body is aching just thinking about moving furniture. Hell, I don’t even want to move my couch to vacuum underneath it once a month.

Years ago, rode as a helper with an O/O, who was with Atlas Special Products div. Moved art shows, computer mainframes, etc.

I recently did a house to house crosstown move in omaha and was more than happy to pay a moving company to do it .

Hmm.
I’m afraid to look under there now.
Maybe she does it while I’m gone...
Anyways, good luck with being a bed bugger.
Quick question... how do you get a couch up here...
Asking for a friend.Touch Freight Freddy, bzinger and BennysPennys Thank this. -
