I was seeing this sign a lot as I approached Atlanta on 75….

That may be why I missed this similar sign

I knew I messed up when there were suddenly ZERO 18 wheelers around me….
We made it through Atlanta without getting a ticket and when we stopped to unload a quick Google search told me I was now an outlaw trucker who could have been fined $150.
Fyi kids, The bypass is mandatory for SemiTrucks in Atlanta.

Trucks do that every day. Most make it. Some don't. I ran through on I-20 east to west with a placarded tanker once after a storm had caused a bunch of wrecks on 285, top and bottom. I got a hard look from one trooper but he didn't stop me.

Just to clarify: I've previously been inside Atlanta's I-285 bypass in a big rig -- but it's LOCAL DELIVERIES ONLY.

I found the best way to cope with multiple lanes on I-75 coming into the Atlanta area was to count my lane number from the median/barrier wall between north/south traffic. Going south on I-75 from TN and getting on I-285, I knew to be in lane 4 or 5 for I-285 around the west side of Atlanta or lanes 5 and 6 for going around the east side of Atlanta. The overhead sign only warn you which lanes to be in about 1/4 miles from the lane split. Just get into the proper lane and stay there until you split. YES, many morons will stay against the center divider/wall and then cross 7 lanes to be in the correct lane, that's what Atlanta driver do.
My 2nd employer had a terminal inside of I-285. I once decided to stop by that terminal so I could drive directly through Atlanta on I-75. WOW. The terminal was is in a neighborhood that made Portland or Baltimore inner-city look like a resort. That was 20 years ago before Atlanta got as bad as it is now.FullMetalJacket, Flat Earth Trucker, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this. -

When you bring attention to yourself you could end up with getting a roadside level 3 inspection and that’s where they really teach you a lesson..
Got to really watch the signs everywhere you go. To me it’s one of the top most important things you need to be doing. There’s more than a couple curves going one way or another around Atlanta that’ll ruin your day really quick.
Some sections are marked no trucks in the 2 left lanes also, got to pay attention.
Be safe out there!FullMetalJacket and tscottme Thank this. -
