I currently run an Astatic 636L noise cancelling mic and I love it.

I'm thinking of upgrading to an Astatic power mic, but have a question first.
A lot of folks seem to like the standard small black D104 M6B regular power mic.
I like the red Road Devil style power mic D104E.

Are the internals the same just in different housings?
If the internals/performance is the same or close, I'd rather have the bigger Road Devil mic.

I believe the road devil is still a noise cancelling mic. I have never used that model myself. I am using the D104M6B on my DX 959. It was tuned up by DTB in Carlisle and he left the modulation limiter in. The M6B is supposed to sound a lot like the old D-104 desk mic. I was worried that it might pick up too much noise in the truck, but everyone tells me it is loud, smooth and crystal clear...

I have the one with the flex conduit cable. I'm not sure the model number. I'm sure there is better but it's the best mic I ever owned. It never tangles is one plus. It looks good is another. I was never quick enough to beat it to the other CB so I don't know how the sound improvement is. :)

I've been running the Road Devil with my President Lincoln for years. Great audio reports both on AM and SSB. It's a cross between the 636 and D104M6B (I also own both). I like it best. You get the best of both worlds.

If you can find one, the Astatic 575-M6 is worth it.

I spent some bucks and bought a Shure 577B. Had my radio tech buddy re-work if for CB. (think he put a transformer out of a RK 56 in it) Best noise canceling mic I've ever owned, but it wasn't cheap. I think I have about a $100 in it. But I can drive down the road with window open and the stereo cranked up and nobody can hear all that when I key the mic! Plus it has a really good tone befitting a high quality mic.

One on ebay for $299.....don't think that is worth it!!! That was the high one. The others seem to be priced awfully high even though they are considerably less than this one.

Did you have to modify it for it to work with the a cb? The website http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/other/577b-close-talk-microphone make it look like it would work right out of the box. I would be willing to make the investment if the mic sounds as good as it costs and holds up well.

I'm not sure what all he did to it to be honest about it. It was something he came up with years ago for himself and he thought I ought to do it so I did. I know he did put a transformer out of a RK56 in the circuit and put a four pin plug on it. He has shop, buy one and sent it to him. He will fix you up. I know this, it is high quality. Shouldn't have to worry about replacing the switch or element for a long time.
