Why don't you just ask CRST why they charged you that much? I guarantee you that ASD had nothing to do with how much money CRST grabbed from your pay.
ASD has been training CRST drivers for a LONG time. As a matter of fact, most of my class in 2007 were CRST students. Why didn't you just pay for the schooling at ASD (or somewhere else) yourself instead of going through CRST?
Like I said, I had MANY hours behind the wheel when I went there, at least an hour and a half a day for 5 days (the second week), then they let me come back for a third week AFTER I already got my license to drive with the other students just so I could get more hours.
My only problem is that the old Volvos they used on the yard for pre trip training were about dead, and the old FL's they had for road training were about to fall apart and the brakes were WAY too tight. Other than that, those folks did just fine by me. -
I'm signed up with ASD in Fontana, CA. I start august 29th, seen 2 posts today that say its a bad school to go to..... got me nervous now
-
Seems your experience was different than mine and all the other students when i attended.
screwball charlie -
The instructors are ok but if you feel like getting cheated out of around 4k then go for it. -
Two posts by the same person who obviously has an axe to grind. I recommend them. I think I'd go over and see what trucks they had for training. If they are decent trucks (legal, not NEW), I'd go with them. You WILL pass the DMV test. -
HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Screwball charlie... THATS FUNNY!!!!
Like I said, no students had any issues like that when I was there, but then... I didn't keep up with them after they got licensed and went to CRST ornamentation. I paid for my own training and went to TMC. CRST chose them to train their drivers. Maybe you should look at your contract with CRST for prices instead of the price sheet from ASD. I'd bet my left one, and your dog that ASD is not charging anywhere NEAR $4k for a refresher course.
Anyone who cares to, give ASD a call and ask the price for their refresher course, and the price for ground up new CDL training. If they say $4k, I'll send you $10 via paypal. (I'd send my left one, but I'm not sure that's even legal).
Bostonburl, you are obviously p****d off about losing $4k. Angry enough that you are lashing out at anyone and everyone who is/was involved in your return to trucking. ASD has no control of your paycheck. They get paid by CRST to train you. You need to give CRST a call and ask why they took $4k out of your check. ASD has as much access to your payroll as I do.
Good to go? -
im paying out of pocket, and i don't mind learning on older equipment, it's for training new drivers after all. Can't imagine a school buying 2011 tractors for new students to blow out the transmissions on lol!
I did go down there and check the place out, the yard seems small but the Freightshakers i saw seemed decent and running fine. I have a post setup reviewing every step when i attend as an "out of pocket" student
EDIT: For me in total its costing about 1600 and thats including the physical exam and the DMV written test fee.... everyones got there ##*n hands out when your going for your CDL > -
Oh, and before you blame ASD for the trashy hotel you had to stay in (if it's the same one), ASD doesn't setup your lodging either. CRST does.
-
Yep, that's about right. I think I paid a little less than $1300 when I went because I already had 40 hours and a learners permit from that little rat hole around the corner. You'll figure out that the yard is setup EXACTLY how the DMV test is down in San Berdo. It's misleading, but there is PLENTY of space in that little lot, trust me.
I think the instructors there are pretty nice (if they are the same ones). We had a blast and joked around and had fun on our daily drives through Riverside, Fontana, San Bernardino, and Ontario.
Yeah, you are in Cali, get used to greasing palms of that state. They are just gonna keep taking and taking and taking.... and not give you much in return. (California hates trucks and truckers)
BTW, you aren't going to CRST, are you? Where is your post about the schooling? And the pics of your training at ASD?
Enjoy that school time, you are going to miss it!
