So I've been driving and studying for my permit for the last month here at Averitt Express and so Far I've been pleased with the help I've received with the other drivers here at averitt. Majority of these guys at my yard have been driving well over 15 years so they know what they are doing so i have good teachers here. Anyways, what does the CDL packet consist of? I was told to go to the revenue office to get my CDl Packet and In arkansas do I have to have my DOT physical complete before I can even get my permit? And how long is the Arkansas CDL permit good for until I have to do my road test? I think what helped me learn so quickly was watching my father all these years. Shifting wasn't even a problem for me both double clutching and floating. I can straight line back and do a 90 degree back fairly easy I haven't attempted a blindside and a parallel yet but I will probably attempt this week. Im hoping by next march I will be a driver with Averitt Express :)

Having your DOT card is now being implemented with getting your CDL. Some states have already started the process. It is my understanding it will be somewhere on your CDL. So no more separate card.

CDL packet is a study book and the paper that the ASP will write your test scores on when you take the written. You do NOT have to have your DOT card when you get it.

See CDL handbook. There's some examples at the end. Also there's many sites that propose sample tests.

The medical card is renewable at 2 years for most and the CDL 5 years. It would be kind of hard to keep running down to the drivers license office to update that info onto one card. Especially when experienced drivers changing jobs are getting physicals out of state by their employer.

From what I read on the FMCSA website, many states require a medical card when receiving your CDL for the first time or renewal. What they are doing is creating a national database for the medical card. The doctor will enter your info and it will be attached to your CDL records. Any leo will be able to pull up through your drivers license number and get all info including your medical card being current. They will also see if you failed any physicals. So ones that fail at one doctor won't be able to go to another doctor anymore. You'll still carry a seperate card and have a long form.

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.
