I am still a student I'll be out in 9 more weeks. I plan on getting a job at US Xpress. I am wondering how I might be able to find a company that goes to Alaska. I wonder if it pays more but I have reasons why I would like to go up there. Any ideas? And US Xpress will probably be my choice unless I find one that goes to Alaska then I might reconsider. Also remember I will be a new driver so if it it something I have to do in the future I will just plan on that. Thanks for any info!

System transport, brenke logistics, Fairchild freight all go to Alaska. You're kinda out of that loop though, seeing as you live in Massachusetts. Koch does occasionally, and Landstar has trucks up there once in a while. You might want to drive the 48 and Canada before you decide to even think about running to Alaska. My friend Swen has a thread, that's what he does, runs to Alaska. It's a different world up there, hell you're in for a shock going to the western United States.

Focus on getting in the truck, with a company and a year under your belt before you think about moving, let alone moving to an Alaskan haul.

Going to Alaska isn't just about driving. There's a hell of a lot that goes into it. Like being mechanically inclined. There's no TA on the Al-Can. Could be days before somebody gets to you up there. Temps get down to -50. There's a 200 mile stretch that's not paved. And you're going into 3 different HOS territories. Learn to be a truck driver first. Not a steering wheel holder, but a truck driver. Steering wheel holders don't make it past BC.

Move your residense to within the hiring area of System Transport. Do you have friends or relatives in the hiring area? If so, move your address. System Transport hires new CDL grads.

Yes. Don't get any experience. Move clear across the country. Great advice once again Chinatown.

PA is in the hiring area; that's close to him. I don't preach, just answer the questions. Don't need experience; System Transport hires new CDL grads.

western states are easier in many aspects in my own opinion, I did not care for it when I was driving the east coast.
