Most likely, they suspended your CDL because you didn't get a DOT Physical. You are going to need to call, if you can't go in person because they are closed because of the virus. Let them know that you no longer want a CDL. This should have been done first and they probably would have your CDL listed as disqualified and not suspended. If that is why your license is suspended, and not for something else, such as points and or citations that were not paid you should be able to straightened it out

I have already gotten my original license back. The problem now is I wasn’t aware that anything from my CDL would affect my personal license/insurance. I’m just checking to see if there’s really anything to be done about it.

Ok, you need to contact them. As Mentioned your CDL should be disqualified. Hopefully you can get it changed, so it won't effect you personal insurance

CDL is potentially “gold laced” and can make you a pretty penny with a strong work ethic. Lol much better than an old regular drivers license. Protect your CDL. Including against scrupulous trucking companies who want to damage it. as long as you have a valid CDL, you can always provide for yourself!

In my home state you get 1 and only 1 Drivers license number (I got mine at age 14)... If you then get a CDL, that same license number is upgraded to a CDL. (The number on my CDL is the same license number I got when I was 14) If for some reason your CDL is suspended by the state you have no driving privileges until you take action (reduce to non CDL license, renew med card, certify that you no longer need Med card but are retaining CDL, ect.) to rectify the situation. ANY suspension by the state will show when insurance checks it.

If you didnt want the CDL anymore you should have Immediately went and got it reduced to a non CDL license before anything else that affects your CDL (like your DOT med card) could lapse.

If you had done this your license never would have been suspended.

I wasn’t aware that it would affect both license, but I have gotten my normal one back with no problem, the main issue I’m having is I didn’t know that it would cause a problem with my personal car insurance as well.

I only got my CDL because it was mandatory for the job, I really had no interest in having it after the job was terminated.

You keep saying both licenses. Don't know how to make it clearer there is one, and only one license.
It's two different classes of the same license. Some states are nice enough to restrict the license to whatever class that state calls a personal when the CDL is no longer valid because of med card. Some states suspend the one, and only one, license you have.

Obviously you are in a state that suspends.

    Cattleman84 Thanks this.
