Or should I ask has anyone had any bad experiences with these kits?
-
Both not bad but if it was a c12 I was doing I would be using 700HP Marine pistons (1 piece Steel) and CAT rings. the rest is OK with McBee or IPD.
-
IPD has never had a problem at our shop.McBee on the other hand has been nothing but problems with scored/scratched liners.seems like rings are too hard.

I used them to inframe our Detroit 12.7, what alot of people don't understand is that, someone makes all the parts, just because the box has detroit or cat on it don't mean that they made it. Mcbee does most all the injectors and most of the parts for detroit( injectors by the way are $150 each, same injector in detroit or reliant box $350 ) thats alot of markup. Now i didn't ask about cat parts, just call them and ask ?????? very nice and had the answers for us and very fast shipping.

We do no use aftermarket kits for any overhaul unless the customer understands we will not warranty it and they buy it. Used one Mcbee kit on Cat 3406 and it blew the head gasket first trip out.
While it might be true that a part might be made for Mcbee and Cat at the same location (not saying it is I have no idea). What I do know is that quality control will be different for Cat than some aftermarket company. When I worked in a plant you can bet when we produced product for a top tier company you watched it a heck of a lot closer than you did for coyote's ACME stuff.Cam Roberts Thanks this. -
Interstate McBee has given us poor results on an inframe rebuild that was done on a '91 L-10 Cummins 300stc motor. The rings never seated. Engine is suffering from terrible blowby. Cummins dealer said it needs rebuilt again. It has 30,000 miles on it. Customer service said that the only way to break it in was under full load immediately, only on a Dyno. Absolute rubbish. Never heard of that. And guess, they won't stand behind their product. Stay away. I have however used an FP Diesel inframe kit on a 8.3 Cummins with success, and no Dyno for break in.

Update! End of season 2018 fall, hauling asphalt millings with the Kenworth, the L-10 Severely lost power. Barely made it back to the shop. With 39,000 miles on the 2012 rebuild, it gave up. We sent it to a diesel shop, and found #6 Piston with broken rings, broken ring lands, scored skirts, other pistons had scored skirts. Highly dissatisfied, and it cost $12500 the first time, and about another $13,000 this time.

AModelCat Thanks this.

We sure didn't baby it. 80,000 gross pulled by an L-10. How many little outfits have a chassis dyno? We have done other rebuilds successfully. McBee parts are inferior. Case Closed.
