Anybody here use the Artic Fox coolant heating products on their trucks? Specifically the in tank fuel heaters.

I've got one truck that has a bad gelling problem (07 Cat Acert MXS) and I'm just about over messing with it. Was thinking about adding one of these setups to my fuel tanks and likely will put one in the hydraulic tank to help it out when it's cold too.

These run off of the coolant from the motor, plug in to 110, I'm thinking about building a manifold for these and adding in an auxillary 'block heater' to the manifold I'll build, I will need 3 lines: dual fuel tanks and hydraulic resivor, to keep my added on system nice and warm and able to be plugged in at night as well.

Anybody got any any experience with these or other ideas? I'm just afraid those little blanket fuel filter heaters either won't put out enough juice, and you're stuck to choosing either 12v or 120v, and I also think with my luck they would just fall off on me.

I have the Fuel tank heaters with the coolant running through them. In heavy traffic stop and go traffic in St louis where we were constantly getting up to 70mph and then full stop over and over My engine (5ek 3406E) started to flash the CEL and derate. It continued to be an issue until we got out to cruising speed on the open road. Later on I found out that the CEL was flashing because the fuel was too hot. It was about 50* and my tank heaters valves were open. I also have my exhaust running within inches of one of my fuel tanks so I'm sure that was a contributing factor.

This is my first winter with them and down to 0* I've had no gelling issues. I do tend to use howes once it gets much below 15. I also leave my motor running if it gets below 30 because I don't have a bunk heater and my motor sucks at cold starts.

I had the Artic Fox in tank heaters in my last truck. They worked fine, but you have to get up to temp for them to work.

The truck before that I had the 12volt Hot Line fuel lines on it. The Hot Line worked great, the fuel restriction gauge would begin to rise, because of filter waxing. I would hit the Hot Line switch and just watch the gauge return to normal within minutes. It was a great setup.

The Hot Line was on a B model Cat, I am not sure how it would work on newer engines that move vast amounts of fuel thru the lines

Just run the right fuel and you won't have a problem.

    ODR Thanks this.

I'd love to be able to run the right fuel, but I've had issues with every fuel supplier in town as of this latest gelling episode.

Being dump trucks and a lowboy truck, we don't take them out of town much, and as of now a bulk storage tank at my shop is not an option due to neighbor issues.

Was just looking at your guys website, so on my 2 fuel filter Cat's (all of them) does your filter replace the filter on the block or the filter on the frame, or would I be adding a 3rd filter to the fuel system?

Gonna butt in here. You would replace the one on the frame. What are your current filters micron ratings?

Are you using cat filters? If so try using a bigger micron primary filter in winter time. I swap primary filter out in late fall and put on a old style stainless mesh screen one which doesn't plug as easy. A lot of the local guys in my area that have cats do this also. Mn bio sucks stuff starts acting up around +15 deg. Hotline I have one on mine also just dosent seem to work as good as it did on older engines. I have tank heaters in tanks and putting tank covers on front of fuel tanks will hold in heat better. Davco you could try just make sure you buy the wrench that goes with it and they are easy to prime just pour fuel in top plug just make sure o ring is on right. Run a restriction gauge pays for it self in a short time.

Yeah, on my Series 60 with a Davco, I go from 7 micron to a 15 micron in the winter. Detroit approves doing that. Same reasoning, bio has its own unique issues that has nothing to do with using the "right" fuel or dosing the tanks with anti-gel.
