It depends if you are doing the inframe yourself. I just had a inframe done. I asked diiferent mechanics about this very question. some said they always used aftermarket on their own equip & never had a problem. one said he used one time & broke a piston at 500,000 miles. I asked the shop where my work was done what type he recommends. he said o.e.m. if I go with after market & anything goes wroung he can say, see I told you I dont like aftermarket kits & blame any problems on it.
if I were doing it my self I would go with after market but a name brand after market llike, mcbee, clevite. e.t.c.AUSSIE DAVE Thanks this. -
if you pay someone with a warranty, get what they want.

AUSSIE DAVE Thanks this. -
I am just rebuilding to stock (Cummins M11 # 400Hp), thankyou so much for your help. Over here in OZ I am aware of aftermarket car parts that are good and have used them for years without any trouble, but truck parts are a whole other story to me. once again thanks mate!

WIth all due respect. If you look into it you will find that the "OEM" parts are made by the same company that the "aftermarket" kits use. Its just not feasible for Cat or Cummins Or Detroit...... to each have factories tooled to build every part in the engine. They get bearings from Clevite, gaskets from felpro etc.....
If you will look farther into it Dave you will find out who made the bearings for you engine, then compare them to the ones ooffered in the aftermarket kits.
Just an of the collar camparison but... the wife bought peanut butter from Walmart the other day. Great Value (Brand)?????
I hit the roof cause I loves my peanuts butters
. Upon further inspection I discovered that it is actually JIF with a different label and cost half as much.
Best of luck in your search Dave.
AUSSIE DAVE Thanks this. -
When we did our inframe, we went with strictly cummins parts, and the reasoning behind that was, they were warrantied a LOT longer than the after markets were. AND we used that warranty on three injectors, so you need to weigh your options on the warranty situation and where you will go if you need to determine if its in warranty.
Just a suggestion.AUSSIE DAVE and 7mouths2feed Thank this. -
I think you may be correct, I remember the truck parts guy telling me that the bearing were made by company "A" and the gaskets were company "B" and so on. thanks for the info mate, take care
