If you work at DOT currently, I have a question. I’m against slip seating with a sleeper. I think it’s unsanitary, promotes unhealthy eating habits, and sleeping on another’s mattress just seems gross. The only thing keeping me from DOT is that a recruiter told me that 6x3 schedule is a slip seating schedule and that the trucks don’t have microwaves or refrigerators and I’d have to share a mattress.

a driver told me this isn’t true at all, but I want to make sure before I switch companies. Can anyone clear this up for me, or is it different depending on the location?

I deliver to DOT locations a lot and just about every driver I talked to wants to come work where I'm at so they must be as great as these recruiters make it sound.

You’re better off to go traditional, no-touch versus any of those alternating schedules, which is running 70/off 34. The only way I’d recommend an alternating schedule is if you were doing 4X4, where you’re sharing a truck with one other person. Even then, it’s not for everyone.

If you’re in this industry for the long-term, you’d normally have your own microwave and fridge/cooler. It’s no company’s responsibility to provide them for you.

The camera IS Ai. They can be turned up and down, depending on driver habits.

Based on your concerns written here, I don’t think they’re a good fit for you.

I’ve been in this industry for 10 yrs and have never had a truck without a fridge. Microwave I have one but to unload and load it every week just seems redundant.

but you’re right if AI cameras and slip seating sleeper cabs, than it’s a no for me. It’s a shame cuz everything else about them seems pretty great.

    thanks for info.

I've been in trucking for 24 years and only had a fridge the last year. Didn't have a microwave until a few months ago. Some of you drivers are soft.

My uncle currently works for DOT, and has been working for them for several years. Don't know much pay-wise, since he and I don't really ever talk finances outside of me occasionally asking him for advice RE: repairs, maintenance and some minor OPS aspects of me running my own truck, but I do know that he pretty much always speaks pretty highly of them. I will warn you, though, he said their interview process is pretty lengthy, and you have to live within a certain distance of one of their yards to even be considered for employment

How long have you been with DOT and how many years of CDL experience do you have? I will be starting with them on the 18th doing touch 5, 2.

You are lucky? DOT called me yesterday about my application. It did not go as planned.

    Me: hello
DOT: I am “redacted” with DOT transportation and I’d like to ask you some questions about your application. Do you ave time to answer a few questions?
Me: I’m driving through heavy freezing fog right now can I call you back in 30 minutes when I can get to a safe stopping point?
DOT: NO! We will not be going forward with your application.
    CLICK!

    Good luck driving for them.

Probably because you answered your phone while driving in dense freezing fog.

So, honest question. Pushing one button on my steering wheel makes me unhireable?

Oh, and don’t call DOT Foods recruiting line to ask for the reason your application failed. They do NOT like being disturbed.
