The ones that cross the border into Ontario are most definitely aggressive not sure if it’s tight schedules or the only ones that will cross the border .. last winter I saw one jack knifed in the Sault Ste Marie Ontario flying j parking lot he came in so hot at the back he crashed in the turn and was stuck in the snow pile jack knifed ..

The pay is dependent on what you sign-up to do, availability, work ethic, consignees, etc. If you want to work, $80K is pretty easy, running no-touch.

To my knowledge, they will only hire a new CDL holder, if the driver came through one of their approved schools and with a great referral from the school.

    Low turnover.

Many drivers have spent their entire careers there. The longest I know of recently retired at 45yrs and 5M accident-free miles.

The AI driver-facing camera is a no-go, for me. But, what I’m told is, for the most part, they’re set very lenient. However, for drivers who demonstrate a high risk, they’re turned up.

CDS is hard work. If you’re questioning how hard the work is, it’s not going to be for you. Dot loads are known on the docks to be the absolute worst, because it’s a whole lot of cases, many are singles or low count, and tons of pallets.

I had planned to retire with them, as they were the best place I’ve ever worked. The people, culture, pay, benefit package, and everything else were awesome. However, I fell ill, which took me 3yrs to get back on top of. They want me to return to them, but, I’m not doing the camera thing. That’s my only grief.

That’s on the driver; not the company.

The general dispatch policy is 2hrs of cushion for weather, traffic, construction, accidents, etc, per 11hr drive shift, which means 9hrs of actual drive time per day.

If one is looking like they’re not going to make a turn time, simply call the other turn driver/team and they can come closer. Then, notify dispatch of the change in trailer swap location, so they can update it in the system for everyone in the system to see. For customer deliveries, I was always given plenty of time, as well. The wildcard was always what the previous driver didn’t write-up, on the trailer.

I’m a current DOT driver, CDS, I touch freight. 2022-$126K Gross You can make good money for a truck driver. The loads are honest work. Nothing heavier than 60# on the dock, but many cases on a load. You don’t touch every case. You are layering like items by tie/high. You’re paid as you touched every case on your load & # of line items pays as well. A lot of 20+ yr seniority drivers throughout DOT nationwide. Good health ins. 401K many other benefits.

If things keep going how they are where I’m currently at, I may end up back over there.
